347 fans! Hurricane Irene wipes out Marlins attendance

Yahoo! Sports:

According to @justincohen790, there was an unofficial headcount of 347 fans in the stands for the first pitch of Wednesday's doubleheader at Sun Life Stadium. Cohen counted five sections with three or fewer people in it and three completely empty sections. The Marlins haven't announced the official attendance, but it likely won't challenge the record of the smallest crowd in modern history (believed to be 653 during a Oakland Athletics game in 1979).

I guess the other 200 people who had tickets evacuated early due to Irene.

I need to catch a Marlins game. Hands down the worst part of baseball games (or really anything in public) is other people. They get in your way, they block your view, they make lines in the bathroom and at the concession stands, they yell stupid things, etc. A baseball game with no people? Perfect!

Yes, I am anti-social.

Dolphin Stadium is easily the worst ballpark I've ever been to (even worse than the Metrodome and RFK Stadium). I went there about 5 years ago and sat in the "fish tank" section, which was a $4 section about 600 feet from home plate in RF. It was so far away the right fielder looked small.

The O's have an inter-league series next year in the new ballpark in Miami. Hopefully the new ballpark will attract larger crowds than the football stadium did. After this year all of the old outdoor multi-purpose stadiums will be gone.

What about Oakland?

It's still a dream of mine to get hammered in the upper decks of an Oakland game.

I've heard tales of lawlessness in the upper decks at Oakland. I guess it's a barren wasteland where you can get away with pretty much anything. Deadspin had a good article on it a while back.
