Matt Kemp

He's definitely having a career year. Tied for lead in HR, 2 back in RBI, and .13 back in AVG. I guess he has a very outside shot at 40/40 too. He's doing it all this year.

I would run every time on base. Especially against a poor defensive catcher.

I wonder if the LA fans that wanted to run him out of town are having second thoughts?

With a week to go, Kemp is third in the NL in average (.326, four points behind Ryan Braun and three short of Jose Reyes), second in homers (36, one behind Albert Pujols) and first in RBIs (118, five up on Ryan Howard). He's also leading the sport in rWAR (1.1 wins ahead of Jose Bautista) and third in fWAR (8.2, half a win behind Jacoby Ellsbury and .1 behind Bautista).

Decent year, I'd say. Pretty cool if he was able to win the Triple Crown.

It's interesting that the Dodgers have a nearly 10-win position player and a 7-win pitcher, and are 78-77. By rWAR Kemp has been responsible for almost 60% of the Dodgers' position player WAR, and Kershaw has been responsible for 40% of their pitching WAR.

If both Kemp and Kershaw had run off and joined a cult in late March the Dodgers would be something like 61-94.

Or maybe this is a good Trea-ean exercise. Add the two best players in the National League to the Orioles and you're still just a .500 team.

Drungo, have the Cy Young and MVP award winners ever both come from a sub-.500 team?

I think I read the other day that no non-playoff team has ever had both the CY and the MVP. However I can't find the article with that information so I could be remembering incorrectly.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Spy Fox is right. There haven't been all that many Cy Young or MVP winners from sub-.500 teams, so it would be remarkable for two of them to coincide.
