There are no amount of moves they can make to make them an 85 win team without rebounds from quite a few of the current players. That takes more than spending money in FA, and the more assets you trade to bring in talent, the less you have to compliment those new pieces.

No matter how short sighted you think they might be, there are 14 years worth of history saying they are not going to spend money like you think they will. PA seems content losing and making a profit.

I'm pretty sure Buck doesn't agree with you. Maybe he can't get us to 85 W by the time his contract is up but I bet he thinks he can, I think the biggest obstacle to improving, is the SP. I think out of Matusz, Arrieta, Tillman, Simon, and VanderHurk, at least one will become a serviceable SP next year. Most likely Arrieta. So if you add a FA SP who is at least as good as Guthrie, to Guthrie, Britton, Hunter and Arrieta you have a moderately good rotation with some depth. If you signed Darvish to be at the top of that ratation it would be very competitive, IMO. A MOO bat would make our offense much better. Those aren't impossible moves, nor would they take the payroll over 100M.

Edwin Jackson would be an absolute disaster pitching in Camden Yards in the AL East. I pray the Orioles stay far away, but given how we got Gregg, pretty much the pitcher I revile the most in recent memory, I'm sure we'll go after him.

He did pretty well pitching in Chicago and Detroit. I guess those are pitcher friendly parks, huh?
