Could the Angels be clearing a spot for Tejada

Why would you trade OCab to replace him with Tejada? You might trade Wood, to play Tejada at 3B. But Tejada is a major defensive downgrade at SS and not all tha that much of an offensive upgrade over OCab.

Tejada is an average defensive SS. I still don't understand how people think he is bad defensively.

Tejada OPS+ for the past 2 season were 126 , 109

Cabrera OPS+ for the past 2 season were 91, 95

It isn't even close in my book that Tejada >> Cabrera.

Now Garland as for now is better than Santana. So the Angels improve a lot in the short term by trading Santana and Wood for Tejada.

The Angels are looking for a kinda bigger hitter. Tejada would fill their SS need and be a better hitter in front of Vlad.

I remain convinced that Brandon Wood will be a total bust as a Major League hitter! Rob Deer. Aybar isn't even worth considering. Heck, I'd just as soon give Luis Hernandez a chance at short.

I'd much rather see Tejada go to a team like Tampa for some off its talent, w/Tampa then swinging him off to a third team for pitching they need. That's a possibility that should be considered. Or, to the Cubs, although the chances of getting Pie seem to be dwindling because Chicago has apparently cleared a spot for him.More and more, I think a three-way trade would help move Tejada faster. I hope they are looking at that.

Well let's see how this could shake out:

Angels trade Kendrick, Willits, Adenhart and Weaver for Cabrera and Uggla

Orioles trade Tejada to Angels for Wood and Santana.

Why not just keep Wood to play SS? You've got MCab to hit behind Vlad. Why do you need to downgrade defensively at SS when you have a young guy who could very well hit better than Tejada and Play better defense?

Cause he would open so many other holes for the LAA.

Am I the only one that thinks this is terrible?

Out of the Cubs/Dodgers/Angels we match up least with LAA.

Hopefully this just drives up the price for the teams with players we really need.

Wood is the best SS prospect would could get. I don't know how that is a bad match up.

Or......

AROD.

The deal with NYY isn't done yet. ;)

They don't need to trade for A-Rod. The Garland acquisition is so they can trade a SP for Cabrera most likely.

If the Angels get Cabrera and the Sox re-sign Lowell, that would leave the Dodgers on the short end. Instead of trading Tejada to the Angels, why not package him with Bedard to the Dodgers, who will now be scrambling for a third base solution...

possibility cause they really wanted Garland in their rotation and the Halos didn't have a match with the WS other then Cabrera is my guess, they weren't willing to part with Santana either I would guess....

that's why I'm not saying that if a deal is done with the Halos and the O's that Santana will be in the mix..I don't think they are parting w/SP at the ML level for Miggy......they have a real nice Starting rotation now w/Garland in the mix

Because filling two of 3B/1B/LF from the Dodgers and possibly getting Kershaw is better than filling one spot.

We need a LF, a CF, a SS, a 1B, bullpen arms, etc. Lets not settle.

    • Yeah. I mean analytics obviously is huge in baseball these days. Still people like myself who have been watching the 0's since the early 1960's still are entitled to view and comment on things from the eye and between the ears test.  I don't get upset when people speak about deep stats and numbers... Moose saying opinions are obnoxious because people comment about  things from an old perspective is not only kind of dismissive, it's kind of rude too. We all have opinions.
    • And think of how many quick offensive possessions we have too. That leads to a tired defense. They ran Henry once in the 4thQ yesterday. They didn’t target Zay after he caught his TD pass. They used 12 personnel less than last week and barely used play action, despite the fact that Crosby was all over them.    No game plan. No thought on how to do anything. Made Henry a priority and then you don’t know how to use him. Just stupidity all around.
    • The Orioles like to try and give this award to someone considered a prospect so McDermott and Povich can't be ruled out despite their partial seasons there. Brandon Young should definitely be in the running though.
    • It's going to be an extremely anticlimactic and somewhat undeserved champagne celebration when the O's eventually clinch what we have to assume will be the wild card. Like, it's hard to imagine a party of any kind right now. They will do it though, and that's fine. It'll just feel weird from the fan perspective.
    • Here something else to consider. Do the Orioles have a lot of players who have a tendency to hit the ball to the same parts of the field? Seems to me that the other team's advanced scouts do a good job of positioning their fielders against the Orioles more often than not. Now maybe it's just bad luck. Or maybe, teams have figured out how to pitch and defend against the Orioles hitters?  I'm not saying they do or not, but I do know this team has been absolutely pathetic hitting with RISP late;ly and having productive at bats. Seems the Orioles hitting philosophy is hit the ball as hard as possible at all times and let "luck" decide the results.
    • It's a good thing Irvin only cost the Orioles this guy: I was pretty skeptical of Hernaiz being anything more than a utility guy and had no issues with moving him for a guy who could potentially help in the rotation. This problem with Irvin is he went from this guy in 2023: to this guy in 2024: Don't worry though, we could lose Irvin because we have this guy in AAA who we gave up Norby and Stowers for:
    • I am "old school" and I don't disagree, but it also doesn't have to be either/or in my opinion. I would substitue the word "tiring" for "obnoxious" above. 😀 I admittedly don't understand all the data and look at some of it in bewilderment. You can teach old dogs new tricks but it takes longer. I'm trying to learn and follow but still hang on to what I know best. (My smart phone ain't real smart either!!!!!) I suspect I may not be alone in the realm of Oriole fandom.
