Honestly, I thought the celebration was similar to any other walk-off win throughout the year. Totally fine with that, and I would have been fine with more.

And I LOVED Bob Dino's comments about ending the Sox season. You could tell the O's wanted to end their season short. After the Francona-Showalter comments before the season and the brawl in the summer, you knew this was big.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I'll voice my dissent here. Of course it was bad form. The O's finished with the 4th worst record in baseball. Celebrating like they'd just won the world series shows that they don't have much depth to their character and that they have no concept of perspective.

That said, it was a fun moment and I enjoyed watching the excitement, even if it was misguided. THEY JUST WON THEIR 69TH GAME OF THE SEASON. woo. hoo.

Just because we've been losers for 14 years doesn't mean we ought to lower our expectations. This year was a disaster. A round of handshakes would have been appropriate.

you guys are all idiots, nobody (except for o's fans) considers the Orioles a rival anywhere in the league. Yea the Sox blew it in September, but the O's have sucked since the mid-to-late 90s. I mean over the past decade the O's haven't finished less than 21 games back in the AL east. I guess as a fan of the Orioles you have to capitalize on the chance to celebrate a win that means nothing to the outcome of your team's season. Either way, the Sox lost in a historic landslide September to the worst team in the AL East (4TH WORST IN ALL MLB), which hurts and sucks, but at least we know we won't suck as much as the O's in 2012!!! The Sox will go back to the drawing board in the off season, trim some fat and come back next year and still be a better team than the O's.

As a reminder - here is how your precious O's have finished (AL East) over the past decade:

28 games back this year

30 games back in 2010

39 games back in 2009

28 games back in 2008

27 games back in 2007 (last time they weren't last in AL East)

27 games back in 2006

21 games back in 2005

23 games back in 2004

30 games back in 2003

36 games back in 2002

32 games back in 2001

How was your drive back to DC last night?

It's a walk off. The last game of the season.

They could have set dynamite to the Red Sox clubhouse and it wouldn't have been enough, IMHO.

Andino, you can say whatever you want. The Red Sox themselves are a trashy team. The organization is top notch, but when you have admitted steroid users in Ortiz, suspected steroid users (in the minors) in Pedroia, Papelbon, AND Youkilis, and you wrap it all in a nice package of entitlement...then they deserve no better. Not to mention how their fans are.

The Orioles are aware of this. And they can cheer until the cows come home. I hope they're still cheering, actually.

I have to give this guy credit picking the name he did coming on our website:

ECOFER is an acronym for

E: Epic

C: Collapse (as)

O: Orioles

F: Forever

E: Eliminate (the)

R: Redsoxs

Thanks for being a good sport!!!:laughlol::mwahaha::clap::beerchug1::2yay-thumb:

If you don't want to see the celebration, keep em out of the endzone!

That celebration was not just for a win, not just for knocking Boston out of the playoffs, but it was for all the smug comments from the players, all the a-holes who wear their pink Sox hats to the Yard, all the times we have been mistreated. The Orioles were rubbing it into the Sox, and I loved every minute of it! As Andino said...get the (heck) outta here!

Exactly!!!! I was there for Manny's 500th and a complete takeover of OPACY by the Pink Hatted Bandwagoners, and anything they get is more than appropriate. If anything the O's should have gone more over-the-top.

I was there too...worst game ever.

Have you ever been to a Sox game at OPACY? Every time an out is made those Masshole wannabes cheer like they just won the Series, so no, I don't think it was overdone last night.

Your facts are all accurate, but here's one you're missing that you can think about as you drive back to Bahstan....

The Orioles AND the Red Sox are not in the playoffs this season, even though the Sox have nearly a 200 million dollar payroll and were picked by EVERYONE to be the AL World Series representative.

I'll leave my final comment to you to Robbie Andino..."Get the (heck) outta here!"

Why would we want our team to sink to their level? And again, reality check: We were a pathetic team this year. I read a bunch of threads on the Red Sox messageboards last night, and while everyone here might like to think the Sox hate the O's now, you'd be wrong. The Sox fans hate the Sox. The Orioles are completely incidental to their downfall.

I want to watch a classy team. Andino walking off the field last night looking like he wanted to tear someone to shreds and shouting vulgarities isn't classy. Celebrating with the same magnitude as the Rays celebrated last night wasn't classy. Classy is understanding that the Red Sox just got punted from the playoffs, that they are probably pretty dejected about it, and that us running around like a bunch of kids who just won a coupon to dairy queen after the t-ball game was borderline disgraceful.

Rise above it. Be the better person. Etc. Etc. The O's weren't. And again, it shocks me to see how many people on this board are okay with it.

    • Sports Guy- Isn't attendance becoming more of a  legacy statistic similar to Avg v. OPS?  It's a very different era than 1965 when there were few suites or "premium" seating and hardly any amenities beyond a beer and hot dog.  Today a seat and it's attachment rate are not comparable between say NY and KC-and we've seen the leverage of corporate sponsorship with TRP.  In the Warehouse I would think growing attachment rate and corporate partners would at some point have comparable priority as a revenue driver.  Seat sales account only ~20% of revenue and shrinking,  The revenue tilt is upgrading fans/corps. to a premium seat at an average of 4X the price.   Although this slide is from '22 it details the discrepancy between teams that can leverage premium seating and suites.  Playoff revenue is also likely in this slide which benefits teams like Houston. There is no real way I have found to judge revenue other than Forbes-just food for thought.
    • The Mountcastle injury hasn't felt like a huge deal since we have a similarly-performing O'Hearn to slot into the same position.  But I think the lineup misses him. He is better than Eloy, Rivera, and the other guys his ABs are getting distributed to. And better defensively than O'Hearn.
    • There could be some interesting stuff to talk about here, or individual cases where what you're saying is true, but I think the short answer is no. Analytics are going to be more accurate overall than the old-school axioms-- the axioms that are provably true are probably still coached.   On point 1 we definitely have some players struggling to make adjustments and some of that may be that they're coached to hunt barrels at the expense of contact. The O's are built to maximize power and you can see that in their results (1st in SLG but 9th in AVG). Maybe a different approach could help some guys break out of a slump more easily, but it's hard to know because there are always struggling players no matter the coaching approach. Were the the Showalter O's missing old-school wisdom when they let Adam Jones continue whiffing on low and away sliders?  Point 2 I probably buy the least because pitching analytics across MLB have been so generally effective in helping players maximize their game. Probably there are ways the O's could be using their data better. Not every decision and result will be perfect. But analytics is golden for pitchers.  On point 3, is there any reason to think the O's are generally weak on defensive fundamentals compared to most teams? Gunnar had his recent error binge but that's all I can think of and that seemed more like a personal thing to me.
    • To be fair, out of 434 batters with more than 100 PA’s, Norby is tied for 2nd in terms of wOBA - xwOBA. Not saying he wouldn’t be useful here, but his average exit velocity, Chase %, whose rate, K%, and BB% all look like they’re bottom 20th percentile. And his defense is very bad.  Again, he would be useful as a DH and obviously his hot streak would be nice, but not sure how sustainable it is. I’m more concerned that all their young guys are struggling and Norby has seen immediate results, sustainable or not.
    • I've said for years that teams should spend for a minor league dietician and a chef for each team.  I'm not talking anything fancy but something healthy and free.
    • I bought a season ticket package this year for the first time since 2014. I have renewed for next year.
