I know a lot of people are using this Fangraph's # a lot now days as the reliable source, but what are your thoughts on it Frobby? Do you find it pretty accurate/credible? I assume you do since you use it a lot, but I've seen some weird and surprising figures on there.

...Not bad for a guy we're paying $22.5 mm over the next three years combined.

I know some thought we should have traded him at the deadline, but this contract is a steal, and only enhances his trade value IMO.

We should have traded him. His value was worth more to us in trade than on the field.

But yes, he was everything those of who wanted to acquired hoped he could be.

I use it because it's available. It is probably inflated in terms of what Hardy would get on the open market. Bu he is worth way, way more than $7.5 mm a year, so long as he's relatively healthy.

I see. No doubt he's worth a lot more than the $7.5MM. This really was a fantastic acquisition/extension.

.

Hardy is a very good player that has signed on to play here for 3 additional years, so he clearly has no qualms about playing for us and trying to be part of our efforts to change our losing aura back to a winning one again. Markakis and Roberts signed on a few years ago, Hardy signed on this year ........ hopefully, Adam Jones, Matt Wieters, and company do the same in the years to come. :) We'll see what happens.

Yeah, you and others were spot on about him for a few years now. It's still surreal to see him do what he did for us this year, after years of folks like yourself calling for it to happen.

He's still a trade chip. Whether or not we cash it in, that remains to be seen. But it could still happen.

You can't say that with certainty. We do not know what was on the table and what might have been included in a deal for Hardy. It is entirely possible that his injury history kept offers down to the point where the return just wasn't big enough.

Its possible this is correct...its way more likely that what I said is correct.

Some of the contenders needed a SS. He was a type A FA, meaning the team trading for him would have gotten back 2 picks....he was also obviously willing to sign a below market extension.

Oh and he was in the midst of a monster year for a SS...so, I feel pretty good saying they would have gotten a good package for him.

Who besides SF, MIL ,and STL needed a SS and had the pitching to trade for him? SF traded Wheeler for Belltran.

I could be wrong, but didn't you want the team to sign him to an extension before the season started? I don't see why half of a season would/should change your opinion on that.

Why did it have to be pitching? We don't just need pitching.

Had we traded Hardy earlier, Alonso probably could have been ours as the Reds were still in the race in early July.

Yes, I wanted them to pursue a 2/15 type extension.

However, what changed is that the team sucked and all the young pitching underachieved and instead of being closer to contention, we were further away than before the season started.

In other words, the priorities changed.

Not to mention, Hardy had a monster first half, so his trade value was pretty high.
