Any word from the meeting between PA, AM and BS this afternoon?

OK... what can we take from the fact that PA wants AM to stay? IMO Buck would have to be in agreement to this which probably means that Buck has a little more respect for Andy and his qualifications than what some give him credit for. Additional, AM comes across in the Sun article wanting out of dodge... perhaps there was more meddling by PA going on than what was reported.

Nothing yet.

PGA apparently wanted MacPhail to still have some sort of role though...

If AM is really going to remain with the team I hope it would be as a trade consultant. AM's trades (when he's made them) have been pretty decent and my biggest hesitation with BS is his lack of negotiating skills.

But on the other hand, a clean slate is what this organization needs and I hope Buck (or whoever) brings in his own people.

His trades have been pretty decent? I like the point you are trying to make, but his trades have landed this team Adam Jones, JJ Hardy, Reynolds, Scott and Strop. Bedard was by the far the most valuable of our players traded, but when you really think about it, could we have done any better? I mean, maybe we get more for Bedard, but Seattle was offering so much more than everyone else IIRC. Now, if you are telling me that we could have landed Ellsbury plus Masterson and Kalish for Bedard in 2008 than we made a poor trade, but the Seattle trade was a slam dunk at the time.

I think this team's issues are tied to the trades that we did not make IMO. So far, we have built an expensive loser. I think that guys like Hardy, Reynolds, Guthrie, Scott, and Roberts were guys who should have been traded when their value was the highest. Guys like Hardy, Reynolds and Jones are likely to at least keep a high value. Whoever takes over at GM, I don't care, I just want to see this team moving in the right direction and making smart baseball decisions. Still have a hard time belieiving that Peter Angelos isn't the guy mucking this whole operation up.

You know we have never heard Buck say anything that makes you think he and Andy were at odds. I think Andy cares about the organization and has not been able to do the things that he entirely wanted. Maybe Buck knows more about the real workings of the operational/ownership relationship and getting clarification on where things need to go and who needs to go is being ironed out before announcements are made. It would not surprise me if Andy is mediating and sharing personel evaluations.

    • Sounds like you're making an argument for Frazier?  A ball in play is better than a K for hitters too! Wily vets and junk-ballers have been around for ages.  Their success/failure is about the quality of contact.  A ball in play (i.e. the strength of Frazier) is out of the pitcher's control.  So everything leading up to the point of contact matters:  pitch mix, hitter's anticipation/approach, release point, speed/movement, angle of approach, hitter's swing path and timing, defensive positioning...  Many more variables that have to line up for a low-K rate pitcher. There's more than one path to success.
    • There is zero evidence that says, if you get more Ks you throw more pitches. We have seen tons of starts where pitchers get lots of Ks and have their pitch count be efficient. Pitch count generally rises because of baserunners. The less outs you get, the more baserunners you have, the more pitches you throw. Now, as with any rule, there are always exceptions but saying pitching to contact leads to a lower pitch count is factually wrong. Means has been pitching to contact since he was brought up and he threw a lot of pitches and only made it through 5.
    • Ok,  Grayson on Thursday vs Means on Saturday
    • 100% agree about the weather.its too cold in march. some fans live in florida or down south/out west where its spring most of the year.maybe climate change will fix it in the future
    • Wow. Two starts. That proves what exactly? It wasn't even against the same opponent. Why not just bring up a Nolan Ryan game from the 60's?
    • You are the one making the claim. Shouldn't it fall upon you to provide evidence? We've been over this before. You post opinion as fact and get defensive when I question you. I politely asked for you to provide evidence for something you stated as a fact. I wasn't rude about it, I even included a helpful tip for you to improve the grammar of your posts. I don't think the actual evidence supports your claim.  I think a lack of swing and miss is going to lead to extended at bats which will cause the overall total number of pitches to be similar.  But that's just an opinion.
