Which of these teams is going to offer him the most money?

This. The real question is: which team will HAVE to offer him the most.

Would Fielder take less money to go to say the Cubs instead of the Orioles. When you have crappy credit you pay a higher interest rate - what is the Orioles here? 10% more than the next- highest, 20% more?

Hopefully they don't unless they want to take their payroll to areas that no one believes they can(at least, no one who is realistic).

How much do you believe we will have to spend on him? You dont want him in an Orioles uniform? What do you suspect we do with our mediocre offsense at best? IMO we need a true MOO bat. A guy that will carry the team for weeks on end. But thats just me, what say you?

First base: It's a sore subject among Orioles fans, most of whom are still grieving the inability to sign first baseman Mark Teixeira before the 2009 season. Finding a power-hitting first baseman has been on the to-do list every year.

Still, two of baseball's biggest free agents from the class of 2012 are first basemen, and while the O's don't figure to be a factor in the Albert Pujols sweepstakes, early whispers indicate that they could make a serious play at Prince Fielder, a player Showalter has always admired. Fielder will command hefty money, but makes more sense than the Orioles emptying the tank for Pujols, because Fielder's younger.

As long as MacPhail's gone, there's a good chance he's an Oriole.

We don't need the bat as badly as we need the SP. You could sign Darvish, Jackson, Crisp and Barmes for about 10 M per more than you would pay Fielder.

I would REALLY like to see us make a play on Jackson at the least with the SP available, you cant teach 98 mph 2 seam fastball, and all of his nasty secondary pitches. He has a great arm, but needs to learn that walks are bad!

Since reading this board, a lot of you IMO think that signing Darvish will be easy, and that we have a good shot, but I just dont see it happening. Although, he is NASTY.

I agree Trea. Signing Fielder would bring relevance back to our organization and show teams that we are messing around. In past years we have signed FA like DLee and Atkins, but a guy like Fielder is something special.

The Angels didn't sign Beltre or Crawford for a lot less than they will have to pay Fielder and both made made more sense than Fielder does with Trumbo and Morales. The Cubs have money issues and they don't even have a GM.
The Angels are going to try Trumbo at third and in regards to Morales, Scioscia says "We're going to build the team assuming he's not going to be there, and if he is, it will help,". That being said I believe their top priority will be mid rotation starter. One possible scenario has them signing Reyes and trading either Izturis or Kendrick for a starter. Could Guthrie net us one of these guys?

Edit: That would be Aybar or Kendrick, not Izturis.

With the Wells contract and the Weaver extension, I don't think the Angels will pony up the cash. I think they'll target a Carlos Pena type. Cardinals I think resign Pujols. Rangers will use their free money on pitching. My best guess is a toss up between the Cubs/Jays/Orioles.

I honestly think the O's have a decent (~20-25% chance) of signing him. And that's not just wishful thinking on my part, because I don't think it'd be a very good idea. I think there's a better chance of the O's landing Fielder than Darvish. Every team in baseball can use a Darvish, while lots of teams don't have a place for Fielder.

6-7 year deal for 25ish million.
You dont want him in an Orioles uniform?
Not for the contract it will take to get him here.
What do you suspect we do with our mediocre offsense at best?
We improve..intelligently.
IMO we need a true MOO bat.
Sure would be nice but not a neccassity.

If you have the cojones to post high, like 65M, you can sign him for 4/10-12 IMO.

    • Tell me how can Harbaugh help him when he doesn't know how to help himself. Harbs is the worst at burning timeouts stupidly then not having any when they are needed at crunch time.
    • Yes the same here. They are going to the playoffs and yet I have no feeling towards it whatsoever. Weird feeling. Like you just know they are going to get bounced in the first round. It looks inevitable. I mean you could make a case the Tigers are more deserving of the Orioles spot. They are playing some great baseball of late.
    • Man Baltimore sports has not been kind. The Orioles are on a  3 month tailspin and the Ravens did what they do best and blew another double digit 4th quarter lead to a inferior team.  Let's see if the Orioles can right the ship,  though I'm not holding my breath on that one at all. Yikes.
    • Idk how impactful this was, probably pretty low on the list of problems, but this is the 2nd straight week that Lamar threw the ball late in the game and the receiver was unable to get oob.  The ball to Bateman is probably excusable because we had more time on the clock and we needed the deep ball to be in position to make a run, but this time throwing a 12 yard dump to Andrews was just straight up stupid IMO.  I get that they're going to play outside leverage all day every day in this situation but just throw it away and try to take another shot.  Lamar has to have more clock awareness than that,  and Harbaugh has to instill in him the importance of saving those seconds on the clock.
    • Sorry but that response from Fuller sounds to me like too many words, concepts, abstractions, and if that's how he communicates, wordy and convoluted, it's a lot for hitters to carry "into the box." Not to mention all the specifics involved, re. what pitches and locations to look for, all the analytics of how to do the swing and torque the body, etc. I'm no coach but I can imagine a whole season of this approach just becomes information overload. Maybe it's not rocket science, after all (with all due respect to ex-NASA Sig). Maybe the antidote is more Zen: just see the pitch and hit the dang thing.  BTW I think the analytical, overthinking approach is better suited to the pitching side, where you can plan your attack based on all the data. Hitting is more reaction, no time to think. You can't beat pitching using the same approach--rather, need the opposite approach, to counter with instinct and intuition. At least, that's my cheap (2 cents) advice!
    • The proposition that every auction automatically results in an overpay is simplified indeed.  Granted, "kind of true" is a low bar to clear, but still...
    • Should probably move this to the minors section.  I don't see him in the majors again this season.
