I liked Ventura as a player. I hope he makes a good manager for them. So much for the Terry Francona rumors.

I saw something where they said that francona will be replacing mccarver for the ALCS. I wonder if he spends next season in the booth.

By the way, I officially feel old. I remember Ventura in college.

Ventura was a very solid player.

But when I hear his name, 2 things come to mind(and I am not sure in which order):

1) Nolan Ryan

2) The horrible ankle injury he had, in I believe a ST game.

His "grand slam single" was pretty memorable too.

Interesting to see him manage with no managerial experience but I am not sure I buy into the idea that experience is really a neccassity.

From the era when you still hated the Yankees, but you respected and even liked their players. Hoping for Ventura to do well.

I've been a big fan of his since around '86 when he was at Okla. St. He was second only to Cal as one of my favorite players. I hated it when he joined the Yanks but, as Scott wrote, that was a team filled with respectable players who were hard to dislike apart from their uniforms. I am shocked by him being named a MLB manager, though I believe he has the tools to be quite effective if given the time to grow into the job. I wish him all the best.

The first thing I think of is his 60 game hit streak in college, then the things listed above.

I also recall him having a big game against us back in the early 90's when we were no-hit by the White Sox.
