Terps vs. Florida State

Who ya got?

The Noles are 17!!! point favorites in the game. It wouldn't surprise me if O'Brien makes an appearance, because I can't see Brown effectively moving the ball down field once FSU shuts down the run. Also, Tate and Hartsfield are both listed as doubtful. We're not allowed to know why though, because if we did, Gaddhafi would have won.

I wonder who Edsall will blame this week. After all, it's not his schemes that don't work. Nooooooooo. Just ask him! (Interesting stuff in this Post article)

Again, it’s all 11, and it’s all of us as coaches, we just got to get better in that phase and just get it done better. Players are trying. The scheme is okay. But now we all have to do it a little bit better so we don’t give up those big plays.

Does not sound to me like a guy trying to pass the buck.

I think I will actually go out on a limb and predict a W in this one. FSU has not been as good as people thought. I thought MD would lose pretty handily to both GT and Clemson and they stayed competitive in both.

Well, having seen the special teams consistently stink, I think it is the scheme. Especially on the punt coverage. That's just an awful set-up that invites blocks and was conceived by some guy who thinks he can reinvent the wheel. Have you ever seen an NFL team set up in punt formation like that? No, you know why? Because it's idiotic.

Anyway, the 17 points does seem high to me. I'm not sure it'll be that bad, unless FSU executes to near flawless precision. They have the athletes, but that hasn't been a big deal for them so far this year.

I hate to say it but I'll be surprised if I even watch any of this game, Edsall has completely lost this team.

FSU 45 Terps 17

What makes you think he's lost the team? The Terps have competed in every game except for Temple. I can't say I'm in love w/Sarge and his approach but the kids haven't quit yet.

I think FSU's speed is way too much for the Terps and their youth. FSU 45 Terps 17 sounds about right and 7 of those 17 will be garbage points.

The team definitely hasn't quit. Although sometimes players will rally around each other and play hard just for themselves, with the coaches serving as the common enemy (see: "Miracle on Ice"). That scenario can be successful for a little while (like an Olympic hockey tournament, or half a college football season). But it usually falls apart at some point once the players get completely fed up....usually after frustrating losses start to mount. Not saying that's what we're seeing with the Terps, but it is one plausible scenario.

I might be in the minority when I say that I just don't think this team is very good. There are a few good, not great players, but most are just average. They've been slow and soft for several years now. Watch some of the big games on Saturday and compare the Terps vs those teams. The Terps don't pass the eyeball test.

I'm not sure that coaching is really the issue right now.

My other bro is currently a senior at UMD, and knows a few of the players who have said that they don't like Edsall and his approach. I used the wrong words , they haven't "quit" but they definately don't like the guy. I could name a few big name players but I'm not goin to throw their names out there like that , but I think you guys could imagine who they are.lol

Gosh I hope that once they get out in the real world, they always have a boss they like. If they have plans for the NFL they may want to realize that by showing how much they don't want to play for Edsall they are destroying any chance they may have had to play at the next level.

Grow up boys we are in situations at times we don't want to be, in either quit and go home or rise above and show them what you are made of.

This doesn't surprise me. When a new coach comes in, there will always be players that don't like what the new coach is doing. Especially uppperclassmen who were recruited by the previous coach and did things a certain way their whole career. Now you have a new guy who's trying to change things, and that's now what these guys signed up for. They will play hard because some of them are playing for a shot at the NFL. I expect other guys to transfer after this year. Most coaching changes take some time, this one will too. The question is will the fans give it time.

It's called being a professional. As another poster said it won't be the first time these players encounter a demanding boss, customer, supplier, wife, child, etc, so they may as well get used to sucking it up and delivering according to expectations.

I'll give Edsall a pass this year. Next year I'll expect to see progress and a visibly better product on the field. In year 3 I'll expect to see his program firing on all cylinders. If at the end of 3 years this is a 6-6 or even a 7-5 team, I'll be very disapointed.

    • I don't think the Japanese dude wants to sign a contract in our major leagues to be an optional right-handed reliever.  Pretty sure he thinks he's better than that, otherwise, what's the point in coming over here.  Plus, I would think he wants more money than you might pay for an optional right-handed reliever, no?
    • The Marlins are not trading a guy who would be a highly sought after guy for a top 75 prospect, a one year expensive (for them) rental player and essentially a throw in vet in Urias.  That’s laughable.    Even if the Marlins really value the bat of Santander, that trade would get blown away by many other teams.
    • Hopefully Ohtani ends up in the NL. How crazy would this be if he didn’t get injured?
    • Love Hyde. It hasn’t eased for me either. Bradish and Grayson got much needed exposure to the playoffs. Looking back on the juggernaut that Bradish faced… was that actually a “good” playoff start?  Grayson has all the humbling fuel to have a big offseason and learn to become a true #1.
    • A Kimbrel signing would tell me that we’re out on Luzardo, and Cease. Wells as a SP. Why give up one of Westburg, Holliday, Mayo, Basallo, Cowser, or Kjerstad? I wouldn’t doubt if Santander, Urias, and Ortiz, was our actual best offer. Kimbrel as closer puts us where we were at the end of September. Wells should be able to build upon his really strong 1st half by able to go another 30-50 IP as a strong SP. I’d feel comfortable if we added Robertson too. The time to get aggressive is at the deadline. I doubt Elias and Co. chose Flaherty over Montgomery. Seems like his hands were tied over Montgomery costing more money the rest of the way. $4 million ish. Elias just knows what to expect this deadline and to leave himself some wiggle room.
    • They need to add the ability to trade picks other than the awarded comp picks.
    • IMO Bradish, Grayson, Means, Kremer, Wells Kimbrel, Cano, Webb, Baumann, Baker Coloumbe, Perez, Irvin AAA - Hall, Tate, Zimmerman, Akin It makes a lot of sense. We could bring in the Japanese reliever to have optionable depth on the RH side. We could sign Robertson. We wouldn’t have to trade a big piece for Luzardo/Cease.
