Angelos interview in PressBox

Wow, way to go there chief. I was giving one piece of anectdotal evidence. Would you like me to list every quote and action over the last 10 years that support my conclusion that the man has an ego problem? I think, despite you attempt to draw on just one isolated comment and tear it appart, that Peter Angelos' "complex" is quite well documented by now unless you've been living under a rock. It's pretty much self-evident. I was just throwing this out there because the only person I know that can relate a personal encounter with old Pete just happens to correlate with my impression from the outside. I don't have to be drinking buddies with the guy to tell he's an ass. You can get plenty of insight from articles like these over the last decade to tell you that he thinks he's sooooo smart and we're soooooo dumb. I don't have to put him on a couch and psychoanalyze the guy for hours to know a well-documented liar when I hear one.

Give me a break!

Sapper, to be fair, italianstallion has agreed with basically everything that you and I have said on this thread. Anecdotal evidence really wasn't necessary to drive the point home.

Yes. I remember it well. I was in attendance that night and I sat through the damn thing.

EDIT- If memory serves me right, it was somewhere between 45 minutes and an hour long. There was a smattering of boos that begun to pick up steam as he went on and on and on and on........

The fact that he put the spotlight that night on himself at all, let alone 45-60 minutes, speaks volumes about his EGO.

I was there as well...it was hideous that he had to hog the spotlight. He could've said what he had to say in 5 minutes or less.

Getting back to the subject of what was actually in the interview....does anyone think Angelos tipped his hand on Teixeira? Specifically, will he direct F&D to attempt to get him?

It's also the luck of the draw; don't let anyone tell you different. Take the (Mark) Teixeira example. If we hadn't swept the Yankees the last three games that year, we would have picked one pick in front of Texas and obviously we would have picked Teixeira. And what do we do? Beat the Yankees in the last three games of the year, putting us one game ahead of Texas. They get the selection and they take Teixeira and we don't get him. That's the luck of the draw. You talk about some bad luck. Of course you get your breaks, too. I am still looking around for some of those (chuckles).

If he's available Angelos will go after him. You can book it. He's looking to put butts in the seats and Tex, a hometown star would do that.

It sure sounds as if he "covets" in the Lechter definition of the word.

and to answer your specific question...I am so fearful of a Glenn Davis here....yes

Neither was being a smart-###.
Wow, you are REALLY one to talk in that regard. Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

And as frankpembleton (jimmymcnulty? ;)) said, I agree with your assessment of Angelos. I just think you would find fault with him if you found out he DOESN'T molest children. You don't have to lay it on so thick; Angelos does a good enough job of burying himself with his own arrogance and stupidity.

    • What I'd like to see in the next game Holliday plays, is for him to keep his eyes following through on the ball when he swings. In the last game I saw, he was yanking his head off the zone when he swung and couldn't see the bat to the ball. He was missing wildly and it wasn't even competitive. So, keep your eye on the ball! Follow all the way through! If your swing is so violent that it's yanking your head off the sight of the ball, then adjust your mechanics because you can't hit what you can't see!
    • What a great example of pedantic! Please tell us you meant to do that. I honestly can’t tell these days.
    • Well it certainly doesn't look like he'll be winning Rookie of Year award. And if we send him down for like the tiniest amount of time, we get him for another year, right? I think if this poor hitting continues it's financial mismanagement not to send him back down. Grayson got sent down and came back way better.
    • He certainly isn't a bust but I wasn't happy with the pick at the time and I don't love using the second overall pick for that type of player profile. Westburg signed for slot so he's irrelevant but Mayo was a great use of the money saved.
    • Think Heston will be the next call up. Mayo’s K/BB ratio is poor and I think they’ll want to see that even out. Stowers and Norby have seen their numbers slip a bit.  It will likely take an injury to an outfielder or first baseman, but I think we see HK next.
    • I have to laugh at some of my pre-draft thoughts as well as others. I will say on behalf of myself and some others is that what we did not understand then was what the Orioles brain trust knew to be their model, and what they best developed. What traits they were looking for is an important thing to know, in hindsight anyway. And really, the Jackson Holliday leap in development was not something most of us heard anything about until about a month before the draft. I saw him the previous summer and I cannot say he was all that impressive, but it was only one look. His physicality took a big jump after that.  I will also add that we’re never going to know what would have happened if they drafted Austin Martin, Jones, Lawler, Lacy, etc. Their development could well have been different as O’s. The funny part of this board, in general, is the absolute certainty some have in their opinions and how eager they are to trash Elias and staff. There is plenty of humility to go around, now that things have played out. It’s fun to finally have a truly great front office and ownership group, and a stacked stable of horses.
