Maryland athletics faces mounting deficits unless corrective measures are taken

Despite spending the fewest dollars per student-athlete of any school in the ACC, Maryland?s athletic department is on course to lose $4.7 million in the current fiscal year, which ends June 30, 2012. Its budget deficit is projected to escalate substantially over the next five years, ballooning to $17.6 million in June 2017 unless the department significantly increases revenue, slashes spending or both.

So, not only did they fail to hire a coach that would generate more excitement (read: ticket sales), but now they have $2mil/yr for 5 more years in sunken cost going to said coach (not including his staff). With the looming deficits, we just might have to wait until 2017. While I blame Debbie Yow 100% for getting them here, Kevin Anderson clearly is not the guy to fix the problem.

Let this guy keep shoveling. It might be the best way to get him out here. How anybody can support this guy is beyond me. Yeah yeah, we are 8 games into his first season. I don;t care. It isn;t going to work out, you can take that to the bank. And you know what I'm at the point where I don't care how good Turg ends up being I want Anderson gone too.

And he grew up in frickin' Glen Rock! As an Orioles and Terps fan!

Even if there were some fans who were going to look for his mistakes, he had everything going for him as late as Labor Day. Two months' later, everything is all screwed up.

I hope for all of our sakes that he can find a way to turn things around.

You don't have to be a writer at the Glen Rock Topic to know this is the most unlikeable person involved in Maryland athletics in years, and that's even including Debbie Yow. This guy has absolutely no awareness about the idiotic things he says. He just needs to shut the hell up and start trying to ingratiate himself with fans. He's going no where but down with this kind of attitude. It's just galling, really. And disgusting.

Well this team was not going to be a top-25 team under Freidgen either after the senior losses, but I hear you. I've tried to stay patient but everything from taking the names off the jerseys, to suspending two wide receivers right after a big win, to the pathetic play of his team, to him throwing certain players under the bus post game instead of taking responsibility, and now to him calling out the fans, it's starting to become real clear that Maryland made a mistake with this hire. He acts like he's a winning coach who's been here for years. He's a bull in a china shop.

Sorry coach, Maryland football has been medoicre for years and besides the big win over Miami, this team has been underwhelming to say the least. DOB looks lost in your system just a year after looking like the best QB ever to come through Maryland, and now you want to call out the fans for not coming out in terrible weather?
