Yoennis Cespedes?

With Duquette being very active in the international markets, what are the chances that he would make a play on Cuban defector Yoennis Cespedes?

He claims to be 26 and supposedly plays a good CF. Plus bat and speed- he set a new league record with 33 home runs in 90 games in Cuba last season. He has been compared to Mike Trout.

Unfortunately, his scouting video has been taken down but here is another writeup.

I know I'm a newb here at the Hangout and there's some kind of snag with Angelos and Cuban defectors but do you think Duquette could make it happen?

The Trout comparisons are off base, although I do think Cespedes is a very intriguing player.

Can anyone find this video still on the web. I really really want to see this!

It's been taken down, but I highly recommend the original video (along with Kevin Goldstein's commentary). It's hilarious.

Too bad they took that video down, it was absolutely hilarious.

From Passan on twitter:

The full list of Yoenis Cespedes suitors from @TBrownYahoo: Yankees, Phillies, Marlins, Blue Jays, Giants, Nationals, Indians, A's, Pirates.

So the Marlins and the Pirates rate as suitors, with the Marlins the favorites. O's no where to be seen.

The more things change. (Not that I would expect DD to magically influence anything before he is officially hired)

Or after he is hired. This is going to take along time to get the O's on the right course. Years not months. If they ever do.

For the most part I agree with you, I just wanted to be clear that I wasn't complaining about DD when I was talking about the apparent lack of interest.

I do however think a big splashy signing like Cespedes or Chapman could happen quickly with actual organizational changes taking longer.

There's not a chance in hell the Orioles even make an offer IMO. This is an MLB forum discussion.

I also tend to agree with this conclusion but after I just watched that video I sure wish we would be in on the bidding. Are the normal questions about Latin players age around this kid? I'm far from a scout but he certainly looks impressive and very fluid in everything he does.
