Orioles Reach Out To Prince Fielder's Representatives

It does not matter how the team is built, rather it's about winning and sustaining winning.

How you get there and stay there is irrelevant.

There is no proper way to build a winning team, because every team is different.

Rather ironic coming from someone who insists we can have a payroll over $100 million and to sign premium free agents.

What is this even supposed to mean?

If a trade is out there that benefits your team, you make it.

Just because you overrate Jones and think the Orioles should piss away way too much money on him doesn't mean that trading him is a bad idea.

Look, you don't agree with me and your ideas(IMO) are completely off base and do nothing but set us up for failure...In other words, I will just agree to disagree and move on to others.

There is a huge risk that the trade wont work out, and that you are better to just hang on to your player.

We have to do that...simply because our scouting and player development is terrible.

No maybe, that DD is here, we can get by with a 80-85 million payroll, due to his success with scouting and player development.

No, we don't have to do that if you believe "there is no proper way to build a winning team."

How else are we going to compete if we cant bring in talent from the minors? We have to get it from the FA market or via trade-BUT if we have no prospects worthy of trade then that leaves us with the FA market.

And those differences guide how those teams need to build and sustain winning. Obviously a team in a huge market with a flourishing regional sports network, a winning recent history, and massive current revenue streams will build in a completely different way than a team that hasn't had a winning record in a generation, has a comparatively tiny media presence, and vastly smaller revenue streams.

It's disingenous to suggest that any team can just pick a direction, any direction, and that's fine, there's no right or wrong to it.

It's not disingenous, necessarily - because that implies a knowing disregard. It is, however, Magoo-level myopic at best, and just idiotic at worst.

There is a huge risk that the player you keep plateaus, gets hurt or regresses and that the trade you passed up turns into a trade you regret not making.

You mean like a 2004 Ponson for AGon rumored deal? What a difference that would have made!!!!
