On the Record: Better pitchers available that could be had for free instead of Eveland

Ok, it's time for you evaluators out there to put up or shut up about the Eveland trade. I've seen things thrown around that suggest you can shake a tree and ten Eveland's fall out or that you can find a guy like Eveland anytime and that there are many available right now for free.

So here's your mission:

Put down the names of pitchers who will be better than Eveland in 2012 who are available for free right now. You can even put down pitchers you believe will be DFA'd or non-tendered before arbitration.

Here are the posters that believe they are smarter than DD and his staff on this trade: 9brady,

I expect that each of you will have no problems finding these pitchers so put it down on record and at the end of next year, we'll see if you or DD was right. since this was such a horrible trade and since Eveland is such "trash," this should be simple endeavor.

Let's not rehash the trade in this thread, it's just for you to go on record with your choices. You don't have to add analysis to each pitcher if you don't want to, just the names are fine. Also, if you didn't like the trade because of what we gave up, please tell us what you think the players traded will become in the major leagues.

Believe they are smarter than DD?

And you said I was acting like a child? LOL

Unreal.

I like how you are preaching that this is just opinion, yet you are the one crying because people aren't agreeing with YOUR opinion.

Love how you're avoiding the challenge.

I have already named some..I don't need to keep playing TOny's little game, especially when he continues to avoid questions being asked of him. Some of us have actually answered this already....But don't let facts get in the way of an idiotic remark...not that you ever do.

I don't recall any of these guys on the list to interview for the GM position. :)

BTW, people are saying there are similar pitchers out there as well.

IE, if you can acquire a .3 WAR pitcher for free and you have to give up players to get a .5 pitcher, you are better off with the .3 WAR pitcher even if the .5 pitcher has a better season.

For whatever reason, this obvious and consistently made point is being lost on some.

My opinion was that Eveland is no better than some of the trash heap pitchers we had last year, namely Reyes and Jakubauskus. I posted their career numbers to prove my point. I am sorry I don't put much stock in 29 IP in the NL, a pitchers park, and time spent in AAA. So this doesn't apply to me, although I appreciate that I was thought of to be included.

The argument is what WILL Dana's value be, not what HAS it been. You presume his past is exactly his future, apparently those getting paid to make this decision don't agree.

I think the bigger question is why is this team so pathetic we have to look for better pitchers we could get "For Free."

How about doing what the grown up teams do and pay for pitchers when you don't have any ones in house that can be immediately brought up?

This concept for improving our rotation is like saying well you got chlamydia, but what better STDs could you have gotten?

Ok, so why not trade Adam Jones for Armando Galarraga? I mean, he did almost throw a perfect game and you just never know what can happen with him. Jones could get hurt and be worthless.

So, let's just make that trade since the past doesn't really mean much, right?

Huh? Strawman...

There are free agents out there better than Eveland, with no trade involved, such as Roy Oswalt. Am I understanding the question correctly that this is not what you're looking for the "GMs" to identify?
