What's the most you would trade for Tex?

I think that's too much to give.

I think some would say that is too much and some would say that the Rangers would need to get one of the top top guys to trade Tex.

I don't think any of us have an issue with trading any of those guys for Tex.

Let's say, with DCAb, we need to include Benson and Hoey to get the deal...I think we would all make that trade.

So, the question is this:

Would you rather trade 2 of Liz, Olson or Reimold or keep them all and just trade DCab?

Can we get Tex for a Richie Sexson-esque 5 for 1 deal?

Would the Rangers do this?:

2 of Gibbons, Benson and CPat

2 of Liz, Olson and Reimold

1 of Hoey or Britton

Sexson had only one year remaining on his contract when the DBacks acquired him, so it's a bit of apples-to-oranges.

Wow!

Gibbons, Benson, Olson, Reimold, and Hoey for Tex?

You know, I'd hate to give that up but it might take something like that. I'd hate to have to inlcude Reimold.

My thinking is this....If we can get Tex without giving up the following guys, we would be in great shape:

Bedard

Tejada

BRob

Markakis

Ray

Loewen

Penn

DCab

Erbe

BTW, i would hate to lose Reimold as well but for Tex, i would have to do it...Just hopefully Texas goes after the pitching more.

Trade DCab.

I've just soured on him lately. I've had hope that he'd gain some control, but I don't think he'll ever get to that point we want him to. I wish the kid the best and hope he can put it together somewhere, someday.

Anyway, I'd trade Cabrera, Gibbons and someone else. I look at it this way...

Cabreras a great talent, but he's a risk. Gibbons is a good talent but he can never stay healthy, so in a way, he's a risk.

We'd be trading those two for a sure thing. IMO, that's a deal you do.

As far as the third player...a low level minor leaguer who's got some upside to sweeten the deal.

However, I think this deal is useless if we trade Tejada and don't replace him with someone like Soriano. In order to make this deal a good one to REALLY improve our team, we need Tejada/Soriano.

Getting rid of a big bat and replacing it with a big bat isn't much of an improvement, IMO. And we'd be filling one hole and creating another. Lateral moves.

Does anyone have a good undestanding of the ranking of the guys Milwaukee got, at the time?

Overbay & Capuano are arguably the two best players in that deal and they were unproven at the time.

Dave, you don't think Texas would be interested in SG's 5 for 1?

I would think, if you look at the time of each deal, the deal i offered would be better than that deal, which makes up for the one year on the contract that Dave mentions.

I doubt the front office would do either, frankly. I really have no idea whether or not Teixeira is actually as available as we seem to think he might be.

The highest I'd go would be Cabrera, Olson and Gibbons. I don't think Reimold has a hell of a lot of value at this point.

Why would we have to?

I should change my wording to need to. This is because trading for Tex is likely to sap any depth this organization has. Now, if we only have to give up Cabrera, Benson, and lets say Gibbons, then we could probably afford to keep Tejada.

But what if you give up Cabrera, Penn/Olson, and Benson/Gibbons?

You are left with, as starters:

Bedard

Loewen

maybe Benson

one of Olson or Penn

FA starter

My reasoning is that you sign Soriano to replace Tejada's production. You trade for Teixeira to get that extra bat, and you trade Tejada to fill two or three immediate holes. We don't have to trade Tejada but I have two questions:

1. What is our payroll if we add Soriano, trade for Tex, and keep Tejada? Lets say we drop Benson and sign a FA starter to a similar deal.

2. How do we fill our other holes without adding too much payroll after trading for Tex?

    • Yeah, basically this, that Westburg's underlying numbers (EV, barrel %, xwOBA) seem to point at this being pretty real, or at least that there's nothing 'undeserved / lucky' about this hot streak, if it's just that.
    • The problem with a Cowser/Kjerstad/Stowers/Bradfield outfield roster is there are no right handers to handle LHP. I don't think and completely left handed outfield is the destination for an organization the values versatility.
    • Looks maybe concussion related.
    • How can you not be romantic about baseball? This seems slightly poetic. I enjoyed reading, and correlated your experience in the stands back to what I watch in Game 1 on MASN.  It was also pretty cool to hear Jim Palmer give you a shout out in Game 2 of the series on Live TV.
    • I am not worried.  It just doesn’t remotely meet the eye test.  He has been great in the field . I can think of at least 3 outstanding plays he has made and not any that I thought he should have gotten but didn’t. Meanwhile Holliday is 3 OAA and I can’t think of an outstanding play and can think of a number I thought he should have made.
    • Nicely stated Roy. Every since I was 9 years old and saw the O's vs. the Tokyo Giants in Tokyo in 1971, I've been infected with the Orange/Black virus. There is no cure and I don't want one. You and I sat at the lunch table with Jim Palmer at the 1970 World Series Champs reunion, and its still one of my enduring baseball memories. You said I looked like Carlton Fisk! I was at all 3 games in this Angels series, right behind the O's dugout. I got to see all our boys, and just simply love to watch this team play. And in true baseball fashion, the one game on paper we should have dominated (GRod vs. 8+ ERA Channing), we end up down 7-0 and lose. But watching Gunnar's homers, his electric triple, and he made a fantastic play today on a ball that went under Westburg's glove, Adley do Adley things, Cowser, holy crap. Kimbrel v. Trout with bases loaded, bottom of 9th, 2 outs, down by 2? That was fun. Next game Trout bats leadoff and torches a GRod fastball for a homer to the opposite field.  An observation.... If you didn't know anything about the team, and you only watched game 1 batting practice, you'd think Cowser and O'Hearn were the studs of the team. Mountcastle was taking BP with the reserves and he put on a show as well.  Home after 3 straight days watching this O's team, so jealous of the Balt fans in Balt that get to see the team with regularity. It's a special bunch.
