Absolutely the smartest man in the business. How he got this deal when no one was going over 6 is beyond amazing. Detroit better hope they win in the next year or two, and even then, I don't know if a title is worth THAT contract.

Tell that to Ryan Madson. Boras gets his Tier 1 guys the money almost all the time (Dice-K). He is a lot less a sure thing as an agent if you are not at the top of your free agent crop. I think his crap cost Madson a lot of money and security earlier this offseason.

Oh my heavens that is an awful contract. Opt out available or not, you don't put that kind of contract down for a guy like Prince Fielder. Detroit can have him for that kind of contract.

I think it's case by case. He got Lohse an incredible deal in a soft pitcher's market a few years ago.
