The Teammates Team

While looking for stuff about Tim Raines for the other thread, I ran across this cool feature on www.thebaseballpage.com.

When you look at a players bio, on the lower right they'll have a "Teammate Team", the best lineup you could create with that players teammates. Here's Cal's:

The Cal Ripken Jr.

Teammate Team

C: Charles Johnson

1B: Eddie Murray

2B: Roberto Alomar

3B: Doug DeCinces

SS: Walt Weiss

LF: Albert Belle

CF: Brady Anderson

RF: Eric Davis

DH: Ken Singleton

SP: Jim Palmer

SP: Mike Flanagan

SP: Mike Mussina

SP: Mike Boddicker

SP: Dennis Martinez

RP: Gregg Olson

M: Cal Ripken Sr.

Interesting, I think you'd DEFINITELY have to have Hoiles over Charles Johnson...and when did the O's have Walt Weiss?

Here's Nolan Ryan's:

The Nolan Ryan

Teammate Team

C: Ivan Rodriguez

1B: Rod Carew

2B: Bobby Grich

3B: Ken Boyer

SS: Dickie Thon

LF: Lyman Bostock

CF: Vada Pinson

RF: Jose Cruz

DH: Jose Canseco

SP: Tom Seaver

SP: Frank Tanana

SP: J.R. Richard

SP: Don Sutton

SP: Kevin Brown

RP: Tug McGraw

RP: Goose Gossage

M: Gil Hodges

Thats a pretty impressive starting rotation. And a good infield.

Rickey Henderson played for a lot of teams in his career:

The Rickey Henderson

Teammate Team

C: Mike Piazza

1B: Don Mattingly

2B: Joe Morgan

3B: Carney Lansford

SS: Alex Rodriguez

LF: Manny Ramirez

CF: Dawyne Murphy

RF: Tony Gwynn

DH: Dave Kingman

SP: Mike Norris

SP: Ron Guidry

SP: Dave Stewart

SP: Jack Morris

SP: Pedro Martinez

RP: Dennis Eckersley

RP: Trevor Hoffman

M: Billy Martin

8 probable Hall of Famers there, including actives. (Piazza, Morgan, A-Rod, Ramirez, Gwynn, Pedro, Eck, Hoffman)

Can anyone else find some good ones? www.thebaseballpage.com

when did the O's have Walt Weiss?

I think it must have been in the same parallel universe where Cal's daddy was a better manager than Earl...

The O's drafted Weiss out of high school, but he didn't sign and went to college instead. But just drafting him shouldn't count. I think you found a bug in their system. If you tell them, they'll probably fix it. (If you report it, you might wanna ask them about the Cal Sr. versus Weaver thing ;-)

Quick Lofton Team Teammate since they don't provide one:

C: Posada, Biggio

1B: Thome, Bagwell, McGriff

2B: Alomar, Kent

3B: (Thome), C. Jones, A Rod

SS: Vizquel, Jeter

LF: Manny, Bonds

CF: A. Jones

RF: Belle, Juan Gonzo, Sosa

DH: (Belle), Murray, Frank Thomas

SP: Shilling, Dennis Martinez, Maddux, Glavine, Nagy, Smoltz, Colon, C.C.

CL: Mesa, Nen, Rivera, Wagner, Jackson

RP: see above

Manager: Torre

Count the HOFers...

Fun to look at. I challenge anyone to find better than that.

But the college coach who convinced Weiss to go to school instead of signing with the O's was the father of a Ripken teammate... :D

Now, are they taking the teammates as they were at their prime, or as they were when they were his teammates? Because Reggie played with Brooks in 1976. While Brooks was obviously in a serious decline by that point, I'd take him at his peak over Nettles at his any day.

Have to be just when they were teammates because Reggie played his last season in Oakland while Canseco and McGwire were really young.

Yeah, the list has some headscratchers but the idea is interesting.
