It's not pessimism it's realism. The Yankees just beat Detroit. Detroit is a better team than BAL. The Yankees and the Red Sox have much better offenses and at least as good pitching. TEX has better pitching as well as a better offense. Sure we could get lucky, I hope we do. But the chances of our taking 2 out of 3 for each series are slim. We should consider it an accomplishment if we avoid being swept by any of these three.

I disagree. And so do the stats so far this year.

We'll see. That's why they play the games. I do think the Yankees and Red Sox staffs are suspect due to age, injury and ineffectiveness. The Rangers on the other hand look very, very good.

I see those numbers and agree that the Orioles staff LOOKS better. But something gets tight when the Orioles go into NY and its not the Orioles defense.

This is the time for the Orioles to stand up to the toughest test of the season and play inspired baseball. They CAN do it. I'm not confident they will in New York.

thats exactly my point. i was pretty drunk when i posted that but it actually makes sense. we have the ability to do it, so its a matter of facing up to old demons and getting it done.

losing consecutive games in extra innings implies we can challenge them, we just need that killer instinct to put them away. I think we've gained a lot of confidence since that opening series, and hopefully that translates into a better showing this time.

My guard is always down when it comes to rooting and hoping for my teams. :D I even had hope for the 1988 team after we started the season at 0-21. :eektf:

I remember reading the back page of the NY Daily News after we finally beat the White Sox. The huge picture that almost covered the entire page was of Eddie Murray shaking Cal Rikpen Jr.'s hand after he had hit a home run. I saw that and I said to myself, "There's one !!!" :thumbsup1:

I like it.

Unfortunately, the Yankees are looking quite legit. But, I would legitimately put us on par with the Jays and Rays for the rest of the season (the way it looks right now). Too early to tell on the Sox.. I think they could still surge if they get healthy.
