Anyone Else Think the BoSox have a Problem?

I think Bobby V is the most overrated manager in baseball and no clue why the BoSox hired them. I know Curt Schilling is an idiot and all, but he said he heard problems in the locker room already-was he right?

I know it is early but Bobby V is not a good manager.

I predict the BoSox not only don't make the playoffs, but finish 4th. I have been saying it all offseason:

Tampa Bay

Yankees

Blue Jays

BoSox

O's

First I would hedge this by saying that they were pretty darn good for most of last year, the start of the season is overanalyzed, and they were playing probably the AL's best team on the road.

That said, the Sox have a very '98-99 Orioles feel to them this year. Henry went off his rocker firing both Epstein and Francona after all the success they've had there, feels like Gillick/Johnson all over again. The back end of their rotation is shaky by any definition, Buchholz is unpredictable and injury-prone, and Beckett has had his ups and downs. A large percentage of their key players are fragile health-wise. And while their star hitters are fantastic, they have more lineup holes than in any recent season I can remember (C?, RF?, SS?, LF?)

I wouldn't be surprised to see that team win 90+ games and wouldn't be surprised to see them right around .500. All depends on the pitching.

I think the youth of the Rays is their best asset and they are probably the toughest team in the AL East.

The Yanks and Red Sox can still get on base and all that but I think age is catching up to them in many aspects of the game, and their pitching seems to have taken a step back too.

That said, wouldn't be surprised to see the Red Sox and Yankees still win 85+ games while sleepwalking.

Dustin Pedroia on Bobby V:

"I don't really understand what Bobby's trying to do. But that's really not the way we go about our stuff here [...] Maybe in Japan or something."

I hope the team turns on him, I'm in the mood for another Red Sox meltdown.

Can I have a link to go with that quote please? It looks like a nice read.

Haha, okay Pedroia. Keep being the tale that tries to control the dog. Bobby V will manage his club the way he sees fit.

I don't think it was a great thing to say, but this type of egotistical response is not surprising at all from Pedroia. Maybe he forgets that the "way we go about stuff here" led that team to drinking beer and eating junk food in the locker room while playoff stretch baseball was being played out on the field.

Knowing Bobby V's penchant for being unpredictable... I wouldn't rule out this entire Youkilis issue as being manufactured to keep the media under control. They've been gnawing on this 24/7. Keeps them distracted while the Sox put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
