First I'm not a big Jones fan. I was looking at the computer last night and he has 4 HRs and 5 RBIs. He hits either 4 or 5 th in the lineup. He basically must be doing terrible with RISP. I get that the that the whole team is struggling but Geez this guy is said to have arrived.

Thought?

It should be noted that the two people hitting in front of him (and for the beginning of the year, Reimold can be counted too), Markakis and Hardy haven't exactly been on-base machines.

I know the RISP numbers arent great, but with the exception of the Yankee game I would say he has been petty clutch. His D has been good, and his running improved. That said, I doubt he is here come the end of the season.

He's 1 for 9 with a HBP so far with RISP. If you ask me, the fact that the O's cleanup hitter is averaging less than one PA per game with RISP is a bigger problem than the fact that he's only reached base twice in those situations.

Well He certainly hasnt learned to lay off the junk on the off season.

Interestingly, he hasn't been flailing aimlessly at the down and away breaking ball.

However, he is chasing stuff up. Easier correction in my opinion.

I have confidence that Jones is just like 99% of MLB players, in that his performance in clutch and non-clutch situations will converge over a significant number of at bats. That number of at bats may be longer than one season, but any delta is far, far more likely to be random variation than skill-based.

This is correct ... I havent see him swinging at the down and away. He just isnt a patient hitter.
