Exactly.

Sure, devoid of context, a swing at a down-the-middle, hittable pitch isn't something to whinge about. But when the bases are loaded with nobody out in the first inning...the priority shouldn't simply be swinging at the first good pitch seen...it should be driving up the starter's pitch count and ratcheting up the pressure.

Poor decision on AJ's part, regardless of where the pitch wound up.

I dunno about that - AJ's a pretty good fastball hitter. He should have at least a 1 in 4 shot at putting that ball in the stands. Against a Major-League pitcher, it's unlikely you'll see another meatball like that over the course of an at-bat, so you might as well go up hacking.

Agree with the pitch sequence comment. Just like anything in sports, you can't assume the next events after a given play because the situation has changed. However, I just can't be upset with Jones for going after a 2-0 pitch that was out over the plate. Didn't work out, but I'm not worried about the result.
