Heyman: Oswalt on O's radar

Sounds like a base salary of $5M, with performance bonuses that could add another $1M.

I honestly expected him to fetch more. Who knows if more money from the O's would have brought him to Baltimore. The word today is that Texas was the only team he was serious about. One advantage, I suppose, to being closest to Mississippuh.

Oh well, we'll see you soon, Zach.

Yeah, I have a lot more confidence in DD than I did to start the season, so I believe he really did try. Disappointing, but not surprising. A healthy Zach would be HUGE!

Hopefully there are other options available at the deadline to help the team.

Oswalt had three better offers than the Ranger's one. One in the AL East that he chose NOT to pitch in. So whether it was us or the Red Sox, money was not the issue. Roy's wife was in Nolan Ryan's daughter's wedding.

I bet it was us.

I would be surprised if the Orioles did not at least seriously exchange numbers, if not make a formal offer. I think he was a target both DD and Buck could have agreed on, and I think Angelos has been waiting to be a mid-season buyer (within reason) rather than a seller for some time, so he would have approved a seven figure offer.

But it's not shocking that he chose TEX. Both parties are a perfect fit, the Rangers may be the best team in baseball, and Oswalt loves Texas.

Sad the Orioles could use another starter.
