Have the Orioles hit their ceiling?

Have lost 5 of 7.

It's been fun, guys. Thanks for the tease.

If this were any other team in baseball, I would respond with the logical answer that the team is simply hitting a lull right now (as all teams do) and will probably get hot again after going through a poor stretch.

However, given that this is Baltimore Orioles, the quoted above is a perfectly justifiable conclusion. Hopefully this isn't the same team we've been watching the last decade+

Anyone else think it's time to slide Wieters down one spot in the lineup and move Davis up to the 5 hole' date=' at least until Matt breaks out of his slump?

How long does he have to keep putting up 0 for's until we take a little of the pressure off of him at the plate?[/quote']

No, lineup position has little meaning.

Pretty sure Wieters isn't so mentally weak that hitting 5 instead of 6 is too much pressure.

Let's see what happens Three teams no one expected got off to really good starts last year. Pirates,Diamondbacks and Indians. Pirates had a horrible end of year. They were lead by an overachiving pitching staff and a really good centerfielder. I know a team like that.:) Indians finished around .500 and are having another good year. Diamondbacks won the NL West. We shall see what happens to the O's..

I don't think our pitching staff is overachieving. Maybe the pen a little, but we have depth there. I think the SP is about right, with Hammel and Chen a bit above expectations but Arrieta, Hunter, and Matusz well below collectively. I think our SP is capable of improvement overall, especially with Britton returning

Everyone knew this was coming (a tough stretch). It's a question now of how they are going to respond. I don't see a downward spiral as in previous seasons. Not under Buck S. and the hungry young players on this team.

It will be interesting to see what their floor is.

I don't know, but if Markakis is out for an extended period of time, Arrieta is going to keep on his inconsistent ways, and the defense continues to be atrocious, we may have not seen anything yet.

Question:

Those cute little posts that say things like "Of all the teams in the past 25 years that have had a winning record by such-and-such a date, 95% finish above .500..." or whatever...

Does anyone take a look at the 5% that don't make it and delve into why they didn't?

    • Will we go with 4 lefties in the pen?  Coloumbe, Perez, Means, and Irvin?  Perez could be the odd man out since Means and Irvin can start if need be.
    • Free look at the next two opponents as OAK-NYY at 700 tonight looks like the only night game on getaway day. As if this series wasn't already uneven enough on paper, Oakland had a bad break yesterday as Zach Gelof strained an oblique and is heading for the IL.    Maybe not as bad a break as Cody Bellinger and Triston Casas apparently breaking ribs. The A's have competed well with the Yankees so far this week - it would be nice if their A relievers have some work to do tonight.
    • Not that I don't want to see Elias make an effort to reinforce the bullpen, but I think it's far too pessimistic to argue that the current roster can't win a WS. If you assume full health by October (a big assumption, of course), then a team that can roll out Burnes/Bradish/Rodriguez in a short series, with this lineup, and Kimbrel to close (again, assuming he stays healthy and doesn't wear down) certainly has a chance. Clear holes that COULD prevent a World Series run sounds more accurate to me.
    • Webb, a little. Baumann, none.
    • It's not really negative, it's just there was talk that he was an advanced college bat that might only need this year to breeze through the majors to put himself in line to directly replace Mullins.  With his struggles in A+ so far, that timeframe gap between Mullins, and EBJ being ready, looks to be bigger than just the 2025 season.   Our roster is pretty stacked.  We like draft picks/prospects, but are in win now mode at the MLB level.  WS mode too.  I don't know many teams that sell off their 29/30 year old GG CF while trying to win a WS.
    • How much remorse, would we have if we let Webb go? Or Baumann?  I am astonished that Ramirez is still here, I’d rather have Jonathan Heasley, and that is not a ringing endorsement of Mr. Heasley either.
    • I mean, no. At worst he can't even hit enough to be a fourth outfielder. There is a point in which the glove doesn't justify the bat. I do think there is a pretty good chance he at least gets a shot at the majors, but the floor could have him stalling out in the minors.
