From the Sun:

Britton to make second rehab start Thursday

Left-hander Zach Britton will make his second minor league rehab start Thursday for Double-A Bowie at Akron.

The Orioles could activate him afterward, but Showalter said optioning Britton to Triple-A Norfolk is a possibility.

Britton, recovering from left shoulder impingement, allowed two runs (none earned) on three hits over five innings, striking out six and walking two in his first rehab assignment.

"I just want to see him continue to make the progress he's making healthwise and stuffwise," Showalter said. "He did some good things next time out and some things he should get better at as it progresses."

So, theres a possibility he won't be coming up after his next rehab start? I mean, unless he was just off the chart bad, what are we waiting for?

They'd rather stick to his rehab plan and get him healthy and in a groove both short- and long-term, rather than taking shortcuts designed to quiet restless fans upset about a five game losing streak in May.

To me, it sounds like Britton will start tonight, and then be called up and join the team probably next week. I would think he will be starting for the O's next week at some point. Probably against Boston.

I think they're going to push him to 100 pitches, see how he does, and if he's successful he'll rejoin Baltimore for the next start.

I'm fairly certain that was the plan.

He got to 80 in his last start with good results. He's getting the groundballs, not walking a lot of guys. I think he's totally healthy, I just think they're stretching him out before recalling him.

I think that if Britton would have gotten 6 innings with his 80 pitches last game they would have thought about calling him up instantly.

They want him to work on limiting his pitches this inning. Get deeper in the game with 90-100 pitches.

Cool--I'm with that plan.

Nice. I'd like to know if those 3 quick outs (5 pitches) were ground balls? I'd love it for that sinker to be working by the time he's up here.
