Miller has to be Mora - He fits too well into the storyline - They probaly just altered the spanish thing

Why would he waive his no-trade to play in Seattle? And where would he play? The Mariners have third base and LF locked up with Beltre and Ibanez. It makes no sense for them to want him, but it does make sense for them to look into Roberts for an upgrade at 2nd. Mora is not an upgrade for Seattle.

They don't. The start of this mentioning the mild interest from the Mariners is about Tejada for SS, not Mora or Roberts. My 2 cents

Again, Betancourt is better than Tejada and Beltre is comparable offensively and much better defensively. This link makes no sense. Roberts is an upgrade over Lopez, and was actually disscussed over at the USS Mariner site as a package with Bedard, hence the mild linkage to the Mariners...

Miller is Roberts.

Read this again and consider the second part of the sentence:

I was asking about the current defensive abilities of a player the Mariners have been linked to very lightly, and the conversation crossed over into a few players his club was open to moving. What he ended up admitting to shocked me a bit.

The player the Mariners have been linked to very lightly and the player he was initially asking about defensively is TEJADA, not Mora or Roberts. He was trying to get an answer on whether Tejada was any good defensively, probably because of the SS/3B stuff.

The first question/answer isn't the next thing said. He skipped something in between. Specifically, he skipped the beginnings of the conversation cross over. At the point where he put that first question, he was asking why we extended Mora if he is viewed by us as just average defensively (which I agree is a strange question). I think before that he had discussed and agreed with the source that Mora was not a strong hitter anymore, so did we consider him an excellent fielder. When the source said no, he asked "so why the extension if we don't view him as a good fielder [or good hitter]"? The answer that he is the overpaid stable pony for Tejada makes complete sense with this interpretation.

I agree this is very confusing, but I'm pretty sure this is what was being said.

I don't know where you're getting that it was Tejada that he was asking about. It isn't anywhere in the post. If you're reading outside stuff in, you should disclose that as I don't remember the M's being linked to either Mora or Tejada even lightly.

On a reading of the actual post it merely says he was asking about the defensive abilities of a player. Then, whether it skips anything or not (which we don't know), he asks why, if Miller's defense was merely average, did they extend him? On a literal reading making no assumptions whatsoever (other than names/identities), it points to the fact that the M's were asking about Mora/Miller's defense and that crossed over into Sanchez/Tejada being a pain.

They aren't talking about Mora to Seattle. The beginning before the Q&A is about Tejada.

BTW, Betancourt had a 725 OPS last year and a 711 OPS lifetime. He is hardly better than Tejada. He makes Tejada look patient at the plate.

No it is not, it is about Roberts. Why would the Mariners want Tejada when they have a better defensive and cheaper SS in Betancourt? Tejada also wasn't extended last year. Again you are reading too much into this.

Why would the writer ask why we extended somebody if they were average in the field if they weren't asking about the player they wanted to know about in the first place?

Anyway I'm going to try to get a hold of the guy and straighten this mess out...

See above for the transcript as I see it. I'm not saying I'm definitely right, but I think this makes much more sense with Mora as Miller rather than Roberts.

I saw, but I'm just saying that it only reads that way with various assumptions made. Either way, as I said earlier in the thread, I don't think it is either of them. I think Miller is Millar. He's not fluent in Spanish, would seem to be a good liason btw the players and the staff, has questions about his defensive ability, and resigned 11/06 (last year) according to Cots.

Whoever Miller is, I think that's whose defensive abilities the Mariners were asking about.

It would be pretty funny if this blog was about some other team entirely.

Well, the author said that "Roger" and "Bob" were flipped in the original guys' list, so if the first post is in fact legitimate, he pretty much confirms it's about the Orioles.

I thought it was a very fascinating read (I love me some good espionage) but I don't take it for being worth very much.

Miller is Roberts.

More likely, "Johnson" is Roberts.

I suppose you're speaking defensely here, he certainly isn't better than Tejada offensively.

    • I was at a meeting and came out to the Orioles down 1-0. I looked away for what seemed like a minute and it was 5-0, then 7-0. Do we know why Burnes was lifted after just 69 pitches after 5 innings? Was he hurt? Do we know why Cano was brought into the game in the 6th (Have to imagine his adrenaline may not have been as flowing at that stage of the game)?  Obviously the bullpen was pretty horrific last night, but could some of this be because Hyde was using guys who typically are late in game relievers in the 6th inning?
    • Good point on the age.  I think it would have to be someone like Nate George from this year's draft just blowing up next year. The story would be how everyone missed on him because he played in a cold weather state.
    • First, Schmidt is having a better year than Cole. Second, the O's teed off Ragans and Lugo last time they faced them.
    • Elias needs to use better judgement when he dumpster dives, prepare better for the high percentage chance that his dumpster diving pickups will fail, and increase usage of other means to get pieces. Bullpen usage is another problem, but it’s hard to effectively juggle flaming torches. A wrong move burns badly
    • I can see the case for Mountcastle based on defense alone, but what has Kjerstad done to warrant that kind of treatment? Is it the .505 OPS he’s put up since coming back? The overall .438 ML OPS since getting hit in the head? I’m as bummed as anyone that his season got derailed, but if you’re talking about where they are right now — he’s not your huckleberry. As for O’Hearn, he’s 8 for his last 23 (.348), with 3 doubles. That feels a little like the “getting himself together” that you referenced. He had an awful month-long slump, but he also has an extended track record (over 1.5 seasons) of excelling in the role he’s now back in, as the platoon LH 1B/DH guy. He had a 125 wRC+ in those 750 PAs as an Oriole until 8/20, which is roughly when Mountcastle went out.  I’d be good with Kjerstad DHing against LH starters, because there’s good reason to think he hits them better than O’Hearn. And if they want to play both O’Hearn and Kjerstad against some RHPs, in order to set up the potential of Mountcastle coming in to PH against a lefty reliever, I’m down for that too. But the primary alignment is going to (and should) be the Mountcastle/O’Hearn duo we’ve gotten accustomed to seeing.
    • The Achilles heel for this team is going to be the unit that doesn't step up in the postseason. I can easily see scenarios where: the bullpen is hot and provides good performances but the offense sputters and isn't clutch the offense comes up big but the bullpen blows games late starting pitching tosses some clunkers (not really likely with Burnes and Eflin) and they can't recover the defense sucks and gives opponents extra outs to work with, blowing games open when the bullpen or SP would have been able to escape and continue We've seen all of these units falter at one point or another during this season.  We've also seen all of these units perform very well at different times throughout the season.  So, we'll see what turns out to be the Achilles heel for the Orioles in the playoffs starting next week.
