The Lew Ford haters crack me up...

Are you all big Tides fans or something? The guy is tearing it up and the Orioles are desperate for help in the outfield...

But don't you DARE bring up a guy that might hit for a few weeks!!!

Look, I know he isn't a long-term answer, and that all of you have much better solutions, but until you get hold of Duquette's ear and convince him to adopt one, or all of your plans, can we please bring this dude up so we are less likely to lose 5, or 12, games that we don't need to in the coming weeks???

Seriously, it's great we got this 29 year old from then Yankees system, but he's no spring chicken either, and he's NEVER done it at the big league level...where Ford HAS...and by IT I mean been a .300 hitter, or at least what I would consider serviceable...

defense is terrible, so I get that, but at this point, offense is terrible too...Ford just might be able to assist with that for a few weeks...while we find a defensive guy that might be able to pick up a baseball bat and not get yelled at for disrespecting the tree that it was made out of...

If he comes up and is horrendous, then we will know we don't need him taking a spot for younger guys at AAA...

Nobody thinks Ford is going to be the World Series MVP...but he might get some of these game winning hits that he's had at Norfolk for Baltimore instead...then when reality hits and he comes back to Earth, we may have picked up or signed or healed a guy that can take over for the long term...

why not bring this dude up...at the very least so we can POTENTIALLY play .500 baseball for the next two weeks or so...

sometimes pitching that is struggling tends to continue to struggle just because the offense isn't helping them out...a few hits might provide some skip in the pitching staff's step and get them all jacked up about winning again...

because that's the kind of team we have right now...they have to be jacked up about playing every night to compete...they gotta play out of their minds...and they don't have that skip in their step right now on either side of the ball...

are you really going to make me go dig up the posts that have been showing up every time that someone mentions bringing him up?
Well, if it's a big enough issue that you're going to make a thread just to address them, it'd be nice. Or a link to relevant threads would suffice.

I did a quick search, can't seem to find it...I could have sworn that there were several on here that when deciding between sending Avery down or deciding who would replace Markakis and come up to fill in for the lackluster replacements for Reimold that several people were anti-Lew Ford...saying that he was old and that these younger guys are the future...

but my point was related to thinking about this year and salvaging a few wins here and there with a guy that can get a few key hits or at least keep an inning going...

I am either dreaming it up, or I don't use the forum often enough to be able to easily find some of these posts...I guess I just look foolish about now though...such is life I guess...there goes the minimal/non-existent rep that I have in here...

I can't speak for others but it takes a lot more then that for me to red light someone. I think most of us just got a chuckle out of the idea that anyone cares enough about Lew Ford to bother hating him.

    • The problem with a Cowser/Kjerstad/Stowers/Bradfield outfield roster is there are no right handers to handle LHP. I don't think and completely left handed outfield is the destination for an organization the values versatility.
    • Looks maybe concussion related.
    • How can you not be romantic about baseball? This seems slightly poetic. I enjoyed reading, and correlated your experience in the stands back to what I watch in Game 1 on MASN.  It was also pretty cool to hear Jim Palmer give you a shout out in Game 2 of the series on Live TV.
    • I am not worried.  It just doesn’t remotely meet the eye test.  He has been great in the field . I can think of at least 3 outstanding plays he has made and not any that I thought he should have gotten but didn’t. Meanwhile Holliday is 3 OAA and I can’t think of an outstanding play and can think of a number I thought he should have made.
    • Nicely stated Roy. Every since I was 9 years old and saw the O's vs. the Tokyo Giants in Tokyo in 1971, I've been infected with the Orange/Black virus. There is no cure and I don't want one. You and I sat at the lunch table with Jim Palmer at the 1970 World Series Champs reunion, and its still one of my enduring baseball memories. You said I looked like Carlton Fisk! I was at all 3 games in this Angels series, right behind the O's dugout. I got to see all our boys, and just simply love to watch this team play. And in true baseball fashion, the one game on paper we should have dominated (GRod vs. 8+ ERA Channing), we end up down 7-0 and lose. But watching Gunnar's homers, his electric triple, and he made a fantastic play today on a ball that went under Westburg's glove, Adley do Adley things, Cowser, holy crap. Kimbrel v. Trout with bases loaded, bottom of 9th, 2 outs, down by 2? That was fun. Next game Trout bats leadoff and torches a GRod fastball for a homer to the opposite field.  An observation.... If you didn't know anything about the team, and you only watched game 1 batting practice, you'd think Cowser and O'Hearn were the studs of the team. Mountcastle was taking BP with the reserves and he put on a show as well.  Home after 3 straight days watching this O's team, so jealous of the Balt fans in Balt that get to see the team with regularity. It's a special bunch.
    • emmett16 is right. Uppercut swings produce a lot of groundouts because the bat is not on the same plane as the ball for very long. The best swing stays on the same plane as the ball for a longer time. This will produce contact that creates backspin on the ball which makes it carry. That Ted Williams book is one of the best hitting books ever written.
