The obvious difference between the O's and other playoff teams is the presence of highly paid position player veterans on the other teams. Even Cleveland and Detroit have some. Cleveland has a great one in Jose Ramirez and a not very good one in Andres Gimenez. Detroit has a completely useless one in Javier Baez. But of course Detroit has had some great ones in the past too, especially Miguel Cabrera. And of course the Orioles have also had highly paid position player veterans in the past. Sometimes it works out well like with Miguel Tejada, other times it blows up in your face like with Chris Davis (though really only Peter Angelos thought it was a good idea to give Davis that contract). It just seems very difficult to win when your best players are only (or almost only) young players. And by young I mean guys who have been in the league 3-4 years or less. You never know how long they will take to develop, if they will have any setbacks, or if they will ever reach their potential. -

Probably doubtful, but he and Brandon Hyde have great rapport and would make a good team to lead the Orioles. The only issue I could imagine would be a clashing of egos from knowing both have had success in MLB, and Maddon even more so. which might strip away the "works well together" idea if Maddon doesn't respect 1 of Hyde's decisions etc. -
I agree with this. I was only quoting the numbers from August 15 on. -

Fredi Gonzalez was a huge asset to Brandon Hyde and the Orioles dugout/clubhouse. I'm saddened to see that he won't be returning. As for the other guys, we expect a shake up of the hitting coaches. -
I will say, I don’t think the O’s were unlucky in the playoffs. Especially in Game 1, they were mostly just terrible. It’s a little bit unusual to have 5 barrels in two games and only walk away with 1 total run, but we all saw it — for a couple months. They were squeezing sawdust out of the bat in any situation where the pressure was high. Guessing, lunging, trying to hit a 6-run homer on every pitch. The KC series was just more of the same. A team that lacked confidence and trust in themselves/each other and just totally messed the bed in situations where we’ve been watching them come through for years. That’s not bad luck, that’s just a team in a deep funk that played like absolute ass down the stretch. Saying DET has had good luck is different than saying that the O’s had bad luck, I think. Worse luck than them, sure, but bad luck isn’t the reason our guys failed.
