I'd be up for Soriano only if he was part of a trade for Dempster or Garza. In this scenerio you give up Gregg to balance out the salaries, offer to eat some/most of Soriano's deal for 2012, with the Cubbies paying about 60% in 2013 and 2014. You would need an extension for the pitcher though.

All in all, I'd much prefer David DeJesus and Ryan Dempster for a package beginning with Jonathan Schoop.

We have a little inside deal with Louisville, got their back. They're still bitter over the Pirates buying them out, stealing all their good players, and forcing them into contraction back in '99.

My favorite types of moves. That certainly worked out for the Red Sox when everyone thought Lowell was finished.

Would have done the same thing with the Mets and Santana/Bay, but they started hot, and Bay may be on his way to retirement with yet another concussion issue.
