Is it Pearce's .222 OBP you like so much or his .294 SLG? Is it his .516 OPS that matches the .515 OPS he put up last year in 105 PAs with Pittsburgh? Maybe it's his .299 career major league OBP in 540 PAs? Pearce is a decent AAAA guy who can come up here and battle, but he's not a guy you start concerning yourself over finding playing time for. He's played a nice defensive outfield and he's had some tough at bats this year, but at the end of the day he's a 29-year old AAAA guy. The fact that we're even having this discussion says a lot more about our current outfield depth with Remiold and Markakis out then it does about Pearce's true abilities.

Pearce is going to get the Avery treatment. Once the reports get out, those numbers are going to get even worse I think.

Good band-aid for now with his defense, but we need to find a better fix if Reimold is out.

But, but... Rick Dempsey says he has great swing components. That with regular playing time he will be a great addition to the team? Could Rick be...wrong? ;)

Fun fact of the day:

Corey Patterson is still playing professional baseball under contract with a MLB team. He is playing for the Nashville Sounds (Mliwaukee AAA team), look it up if you don't believe me!*

*Did I mention Jay Gibbons is on the team too?

That's 17 whole at bats you're talking about there - certainly not enough to even reference his OBP or SLG numbers.

What I like about him is that he's a capable fill-in for the time being (never said he was the future) and you hope there's something to his .321/.422/.574/.996 line in 190 ABs in AAA this year.

Huh? did you miss the part about his career .299 OBP in 540 PAs? I brought up his stats this year to just to illustrate the point that I don't really understand where this Pearce should get more playing time is coming from? I pretty sure I'm fully aware of SSS so I don't need a lecture on it. Maybe read the whole post before trying to point out something you know I clearly understand.

Having seen Pearce in person last night and on TV tonight, I like his approach at the plate and his defense looks solid. As I said once before, I feel like this might be a David Newhan, catch lightning in a bottle for one season situation. He was raking in AAA when we acquired him. It could just be his one year to be a solid major league contributor.

You could almost literally see this break out coming. He was hitting everything hard and far. He's not the future by any stretch, but what he is is a great little find by DD and the scouts. To me, he sure looks like a major leaguer. He's going to swing up there and probably not take many walks, but I don't see any huge holes in his swing. He can stay compact and he swings really hard. Good for him, he's been fun to watch.

Yeah, Yeah, we get it. Nice call. ;)

I said this in the game thread last night, but I think Pearce is just about ready to go yard in one of these games. He takes good hacks up there and has just missed a couple. Plus, he had something like 11 homers in AAA before we acquired him.

He just looks like a player. He's got some swagger, which I find interesting. Defense is solid. OBP is bad, but he's having decent ABs and it's a very small sample size.
