Ahh. Like I've said a bunch recently I haven't been able to catch many O's games the past 2 weeks so haven't seen many of his ABs. Saw the entire game today and he looked really, really good (obviously).

I take his he's been used in sacrifice situations a good bit?

Quick question.

According to MLB.com stats his OBP is lower than his BA. Maybe I've completely lost it... but that's not even possible is it?

Sacrifice hits don't count against BA, but do against OBP.

Yep. Brian Roberts is also in the same odd situation as is Pearce (of having a higher batting average than that of his on-base percentage.)

Is it Pearce's .222 OBP you like so much or his .294 SLG? Is it his .516 OPS that matches the .515 OPS he put up last year in 105 PAs with Pittsburgh?

Mitigating circumstances are that he reached the majors very early, probably before he was ready, never had an extended look with the Pirates, was yo-yoed, and has excellent Mil stats. Take away Chris Davis's good first year with Texas, and you could make the same argument about him.

The thing I like about Pearce so much is that we have him now, I'd rather have him than Tolleson in the outfield, and that BS will give him a shot. After that, as always, we'll see.

I was thinking about the comparison of Chris Davis myself today. You never know, maybe we found a gem.

I'd be happy with Steve P out there until when Reimold comes back. Dude looks like a gamer who plays with intensity. Don't know about his future with us but right now he is contributing during a time of serious need. Sometimes good enough is good enough.

Is it possible he is a late bloomer like Scott? Seems to have a real good bat and enough patience. Looks better than Scott in the field.

It's possible I guess. He certainly has a nice approach. At the very least he splits out well against LHP, even in his limited 500 or so ML AB's. I get the indication there may be some bat speed issues there. The weakness against RHP may indicate an issue with offspeed stuff. Hard to tell. Love to see some recent scouting reports/opinions on him.

It's possible. In fact, with Lew Ford banging on the door with his .404 batting average at AAA-Norfolk, I desperately want to believe it. The alternative is that, Pearce will just fizzle out after his hot start, and we just might have to ......... I don't even want to say it.

I gotta think if we stay in this thing (and I think we will) then you have to consider bringing in someone via trade. I like the guy as a reserve type dude... beats the hell out of Felix Pie lol. That being said he is likely a guy who the longer he is exposed the less productive he will be. If you think you can make the wild card you kinda owe it to the team and fans to go out and grab someone who can be more consistently productive imo . Corner outfield is an position the O's should be able to pick someone up via trade who would be an upgrade at a reasonable cost prospect wise.

I've loved Pearce's contributions both with the bat and the glove, but his last two ABs last night were the worst I've seen from him. Possible that he got swing-happy after the home run? He has a history with the Pirates of blowing cold after a hot start and so it will be interesting to see whether he can "buck" the trend this time around.
