Give Pearce a chance

Having seen Pearce in person last night and on TV tonight, I like his approach at the plate and his defense looks solid. As I said once before, I feel like this might be a David Newhan, catch lightning in a bottle for one season situation. He was raking in AAA when we acquired him. It could just be his one year to be a solid major league contributor.

I can buy that. Pearce has a good setup at the plate and has really had some nice at bats. I'm not convinced he's any kind of long term solution, but he's looks like a decent 4th outfielder right now. Either way, the guy is certainly having a nice season so far and with Markakis and Reimold out, I have no problem playing him while he's hot.

It's possible I guess. He certainly has a nice approach. At the very least he splits out well against LHP, even in his limited 500 or so ML AB's. I get the indication there may be some bat speed issues there. The weakness against RHP may indicate an issue with offspeed stuff. Hard to tell. Love to see some recent scouting reports/opinions on him.

Good call. Fangraphs's pitch values over his career would suggest that as well. Either way, he's a nice little story right now after a nice game last night. I wouldn't start thumping my chest in celebration over his nice game last night, but at the end of the day, he's a nice pickup by DD. If anything this attests to DD being aware of all the talent out there. One of the problems I've had with the Orioles FO over the years were letting guys like this go by while they would keep playing a Tyler Henson-type guy every day in AAA. DD has shown an ability to bring guys like him, Tolleson, Pomeranz and Eveland and find ways for them to help the club.

I'm happy for Pearce and the Orioles and I hope he can keep it up for awhile, but those of you who are looking for more will end up being disappointed in the long run I believe.

Hope Buck is thinking like you guys when we play lefties. I'd rather have pearce or avery as our 4th OFer vs bringing endy back.

I agree. I'd be fine with a Avery/Pearce platoon in LF once Markakis comes back.

Buck:

Weaver would have been happy (about not bunting and going for the big inning that allowed Pearce to hit the three run homer). Of course, he's not one of those big you-know-whats, but he hit it where the grass doesn't grow.

:laughlol:

Hey, aren't there some MLB stadium that DO have grass growing beyond the fences ???

I guess Anaheim Stadium isn't one of them. :laughlol:

I'm officially on the Pearce bandwagon. To me, he's a solid player - the kind of guy who playoff teams always seem to have around to fill in when key players get hurt.

Pearce is making a case for himself. I think he is pushing the O's to think about optioning O'Day after the break if Markakis, Chavez and Britton come back.

Markakis, Chavez, Britton and Teagarden up; Paulino, Mahoney, Avery and O'Day optioned. Davis/Pearce in left. Love to see them do something with Gregg not I don't see it happening. BRob's injury makes Flaherty's stay as a back up infielder a better fit.
