Tough to listen to

So that no one should ever make a joke about drunkenness? Not even remotely. Particularly on a sports board.

No thats not what I am saying. I dont really have a huge problem with it, in a setting with friends I would have absolutely no problem joking about that. Its just a bit confusing that cursing is not allowed here, you cannot have improper grammar and/or punctuation, but there is no problem with making jokes about someones possible drunkenness...its just strange.

Thankfully I was at the game tonight, but I got home and was discussing the game with my wife. Now God bless her because she tries, but there are a lot of finer points of the game she doesn't get. But you know what she does say, "oh gosh Dempsey was on tonight, he was terrible. Just messing up things left and right.".

You guys wouldn't have this problem if you went to the game.

Look back over the posters in this thread and see where we are located. Alexandria, Philly, West Virginia, New Jersey, Florida, New Orleans, Brooklyn. Your solution is not easy. For some, perhaps.

{EDIT, not everyone in here complaining either}

I don't understand what's wrong here. It's not like he has notorious alcohol problems... it's a joke.

And yeah, Dempsey is just awful. He is worse than Bordick by a mile, and Bordick is pretty bad.

What is with all of the Jim Hunter venom?

Admiral of USS Good Ship Lollipop.

I don't understand the Manfra hate, myself. He's definitely not on Angel's level but I don't get why he's bad. I know, I know, every so often he gets excited over a shallow pop fly that he thinks is a homer, but get over it. It's not that bad.

Manfra is horrendous at actually describing what's happening on the field. He tries to cram way too much information into every sentence, and as a result it takes him about 5 minutes to describe a 5-second play. He does this over and over again, and it's incredibly frustrating to a listener who's trying to figure out what's happening in the game.

The way an announcer should describe a play: "And here's the 3-2 pitch to Cano. Swing, and a grounder to short. Hardy fields and makes the throw to first for the final out." (crowd cheers)

How Manfra describes it: "And the 3-2 delivery upcoming from the tall right-hander from eastern Michigan, to the Yankees' left-handed swinging second baseman...and... (crowd cheers, because the play is already over) ...it's...a...ground ball to the shortstop J.J. Hardy, and...(pause)... on an easy hop, to his glove side left, J.J.... (pause)... makes the casual throw across the diamond."

You hear the crowd cheering a long time before Manfra finishes explaining what actually happened on the play. So you know that something has happened, but you have to wait for Manfra to finish his stream of consciousness ramblings before you can caught up.

The best, IMO. Palmer gets.... well he's Palmer. I'm more than happy to deal with it though.

If you listen to other teams main crews you'll quickly see that he Orioles actually have one of the better booths in the league.

Well tonight he taught us that if Davis learned to not roll over his back hand he could hit "60" homeruns.

I actually thought this was very interesting and probably a valid point. I've never played organized baseball at any point in my life, so he could just be flat out wrong and misleading me.
