Nationals Sign Lo Duca

Say what you want about the Nats, except for the Dukes move, they have made some pretty good moves this off-season.

The Dukes move is much better than signing Lo Duca.

Dukes is 23 and they acquired him for basically nothing. Lo Duca will be 36 on Opening Day, isn't good, and will only get worse.

Yes and when Dukes kills his wife and her children like he has threatened to do multiple times is it still a good trade?? I must not get it, because I can not understand why people would think that it is a good thing for a team to trade for a man (I use that term very loosely) who threatens women and children.

Yes Dukes is crazy, but unlike Lo Duca, he might actually contribute something on the baseball field.

I'd much rather have a young guy with tons of upside and some behavioral problems instead of a 36-year-old in a performance freefall who thinks he's a clubhouse presence on par with Gen. Douglas MacArthur.

grow up. people can change, and you don't even know the guy.

I think you don't know the guy and the grow up comment is outa line. Read up on Elijah Dukes history.

Give me one piece of evidence that the guy has changed. He just got himself into a pretty heated arguement in the Dominican with an umpire. The guy threatened to KILL HIS WIFE, AND HER KIDS, in what kind of Bizarro world is that acceptable behavior. I'm sorry, I can overlook a lot of things but threatening to kill children is not something that can or should be glossed over.

It's not about being "right", it's about overlooking the past and hoping that Dukes has changed his ways. If he can do that, he has all the talent in the world to be a top-shelf player. It's worth the risk.

I think Milledge is the type of player that is worth the risk, Dukes not so much.

    • I'm referring to recent Cowser. Overall he's had a pretty good year.
    • I get it, however there are a lot of teams that are playoff team who are struggling the second half. The Yankees have faired about the same. The Os can still win the division. I do agree that the best hope is the position players return, and play to their potential, and the same with the injured pitchers who could be back. I would feel a whole lot better going into the playoffs with those guys back.  Let me put it this way: I followed the Giants a lot because the Os sucked and my wife is a life long Giants fan. The 2010 team that won the WS didn’t feel that dominant going into the playoffs, but they caught fire and players that were not well known became hero’s.  This team is going to make the playoffs, if they shit the bed in the playoffs again, then I am ready to discuss all of this. Until then, this team still has a chance to win it all. The Rangers didn’t feel like a better team than the Os last year but they ended up winning it all.
    • Cowser has a .760 OPS as a rookie. Holliday and Mayo should be expected to be taking lumps and Mayo has hardly been given a real chance of sustained playing time. O'Hearn is just showing what he is, not an every day guy. He is closer to the grouping of Rivera/Jimenez/Slater than should be to the others. A cash considerations dump that we are very fortunate contributed for as long as he did. Not someone I think we should be counting on to carry the offense however. Adley has been very disappointing yes- so that one I agree on. But its the injuries to several of our main guys and filling those spots with the aforementioned names above that has really taken a fragile offense and sunk it to these levels.
    • Exactly.... plus, getting some pitching, etc. back you just never know - we know the talent and track record is there.  Maybe my expectations are too low but, if they make the playoffs and lose, it is a repeat from last year.  Not good, but what this team has been through...
