Stark hears Orioles in on Garza talks...

I think I would have a heart attack if the Orioles actually traded for a pitcher of Garza's caliber in-season. I honestly cannot remember that ever happening in the last 30 years.

That's probably because the O's have only been in serious contention a hand full of times in 30 years.

The biggest O's deadline trade I can find in that time frame in not a pitcher:

June 27, 1997: Geronimo Berroa traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Baltimore Orioles for a player to be named later and Jimmy Haynes. The Baltimore Orioles sent Mark Seaver (minors) (September 2, 1997) to the Oakland Athletics to complete the trade.

Yes, yes, please!! I've always wanted to take on a ton of salary for a 37-year-old with Chris Davis' plate discipline who's owed $45M!

LOL you do know the cubs are gonna eat about 90% of that

You keep saying it.

It is one thing for the Cubs to say that they will do it, it might be another situation when ownership is faced with eating 40 million for some kid in A ball. I think the Cubs will eat a large portion of his salary (If they can find a team dumb enough to take him) but I don't think it will be 90%, I would guess closer to 60-75%.

Hating on Alfonso Soriano is the baseball hipster thing to do these days but he would be our second best OF currently.

Oh, and we'd get Garza in a deal if we took his armageddon-inducing salary on, and the Cubs would eat at least SOME of the dollars owed.

Or, we can keep losing, that's just as fun.

Do you, right now, think that Soriano and Garza would be difference makers that could get this team to the playoffs?
