Tigers top 3 better than we realize?

I stumbled across this article about the Angels rotation on fangraphs:

What I found most interesting about it was the graph ranking the Top 3 of each rotation by fWAR; I was pretty surprised to see that the Tigers rank 3rd on that list.

After some further investigation, both Fister and Scherzer are guys who the ERA metrics (FIP, xFIP, SIERA) suggest are deserving/performing a bit better than their respective ERAs suggest.

We were pretty hard on the O's in the game thread for stinking it up against Fister but he was a pretty damn good pitcher last year and I couldn't help but think watching him that he looks a lot like Jered Weaver in terms of stuff and style (their mechanics are eerily similar).

Not trying to make excuses for our offense, but worth taking into account.

Yup, I remember, and I thought for all the world I had mentioned you in the original post (just looked and saw I didn't) because it was after reading your post that I dug up that article about teams' top 3's to try and support your observations, because I felt that way as well. Actually, more precisely I felt: this guy looks to me just like Jered Weaver, and I wish we knew how to hit both of them better. But if we're not going to complain about getting shut down by Weaver, we probably shouldn't complain about being shut down by Fister.
