We've lost 14 of our last 20' date=' many by blowouts and in pretty much all of them the offense has been terrible.

Now the bullpen is coming back to earth, Hammel might be hurt and the Calvary got cut down like Custer at little big horn.

You don't have to be the Amazing Creskin to see things aren't headed in a positive direction. If it makes me negative to simply take notice of these facts, then call me Mr. Negative.[/quote']

OK, you're Mr. Negative.

You see. It was the reaction of a guy who is routinely blasted on this board for being too optimistic. It was the lowest point for a lot of non-baseball related things but hey, here we are again.

I don't think any of us had any doubt that you'd bounce back. (And I mean that as a compliment!)

This thread evidences why we all still love the Orioles after all these years. Every spring after a losing season we nevertheless try to stay cautiously optimistic about the future, usually to be disappointed. There have been a lot of conflicting moments so far this season, from the high early on to the low around the ASB. Right now things aren't too bad and a total collapse doesn't look imminent (though who knows what will happen?), so we're hopeful again. Short of the worst collapse in baseball history, we should finish quite a bit better than we have in years.

Either way, I fully admit that I bleed black and orange, and I have since I was a little boy. I might change the channel when we get blown out, but I'll always change it back. Just in case.

Add in 14 straight years of sub .500 records, 2005, we are 6-14 (.300) in our last 20 games, and by looking at a ridiculously poor lineup that bats a .260 OBP guy second and 41-year old guy who was a pinch hitter for Philadelphia as our number three batter, and the smart fan knows it's more than just one game.

It's not a question of if we are going to implode, we have been imploding over the last 20 games. We are already in the free fall and when you look at the this lineup and rotation (especially if Hammel goes out for any extended time), and it's going to be a long brutal second half. this isn't a rant, and it's not reactionary, it's just the cold hard facts.

If this is brutal I can't wait for things to be good! :2yay-thumb:

Fan since 1958, don't post much, but avid fan of O's and OH... Took indefinate vacation to Cocoa Beach starting in June this year, after spending 21/2 months @ ST..... After reading this thread, caught a plane back July 17 to see what's up and got tickets to first home series (Tampa July 24-26). Since then O's have gone 16-9, including 2 of 3 from both Yanks and Tampa.

Also, saw S Johnson win 1st game, MM debut (1st Club seats in years), Q come from nowhere to contribute and Ford and McLouth (great stories, similiar to Travis Driscoll story) bring stability to LF.... Several quality starts from Chen, Gonzo, Tillman, etc.,.. more 1 run and extra inning victories and the comback against the Yanks ON THEIR TURF! DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS in Baltimore summers. :clap3::clap3:

Hoping for a playoff spot, but will take it day by day. Oh Yeah, Boston swoon nice too!! :laughlol:

    • Yeah, basically this, that Westburg's underlying numbers (EV, barrel %, xwOBA) seem to point at this being pretty real, or at least that there's nothing 'undeserved / lucky' about this hot streak, if it's just that.
    • The problem with a Cowser/Kjerstad/Stowers/Bradfield outfield roster is there are no right handers to handle LHP. I don't think and completely left handed outfield is the destination for an organization the values versatility.
    • Looks maybe concussion related.
    • How can you not be romantic about baseball? This seems slightly poetic. I enjoyed reading, and correlated your experience in the stands back to what I watch in Game 1 on MASN.  It was also pretty cool to hear Jim Palmer give you a shout out in Game 2 of the series on Live TV.
    • I am not worried.  It just doesn’t remotely meet the eye test.  He has been great in the field . I can think of at least 3 outstanding plays he has made and not any that I thought he should have gotten but didn’t. Meanwhile Holliday is 3 OAA and I can’t think of an outstanding play and can think of a number I thought he should have made.
    • Nicely stated Roy. Every since I was 9 years old and saw the O's vs. the Tokyo Giants in Tokyo in 1971, I've been infected with the Orange/Black virus. There is no cure and I don't want one. You and I sat at the lunch table with Jim Palmer at the 1970 World Series Champs reunion, and its still one of my enduring baseball memories. You said I looked like Carlton Fisk! I was at all 3 games in this Angels series, right behind the O's dugout. I got to see all our boys, and just simply love to watch this team play. And in true baseball fashion, the one game on paper we should have dominated (GRod vs. 8+ ERA Channing), we end up down 7-0 and lose. But watching Gunnar's homers, his electric triple, and he made a fantastic play today on a ball that went under Westburg's glove, Adley do Adley things, Cowser, holy crap. Kimbrel v. Trout with bases loaded, bottom of 9th, 2 outs, down by 2? That was fun. Next game Trout bats leadoff and torches a GRod fastball for a homer to the opposite field.  An observation.... If you didn't know anything about the team, and you only watched game 1 batting practice, you'd think Cowser and O'Hearn were the studs of the team. Mountcastle was taking BP with the reserves and he put on a show as well.  Home after 3 straight days watching this O's team, so jealous of the Balt fans in Balt that get to see the team with regularity. It's a special bunch.
