Competitive Balance Lottery

Recommended Posts

If Duquette really is serious about being buyers, then I'm betting this pick gets traded, since these lotto picks are tradable during the season. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we still have this pick come next year's draft. I dunno...just the feeling I get.

We're 2 games above .500 and have the 3rd worst run differential in the American League, I don't think that we're buyers at this point. I think that we have a bright future, but not this season.

Oh, I agree. But according to Ken Rosenthal, Duquette still thinks we're buyers. And now he just got an extra trade chip to play around with. That scares me.

It’s important for us to finish strong and win more games than we lose.

I am generally not in favor of trading that pick. There is always great talent available at that pick range. We are NOT just one or two players away from a solid playoff team.

That said, the only way I would agree to trade that pick is if we can get a player that can be a solid/above average performer for more than a few months. Those types of guys are generally not available at this time of year unless the return package is steep. I have a lot of respect for DD, but his quotes admittedly scare me a bit.

Same here. I've been worried for weeks that DD is gonna trade Schoop in a stupid trade.

BTW, what do you think of Kiehl Frazier for this year. If he can step up, I think we're gonna surprise a lot of people this year. Defense is going to be loads better.

IMO, it is silly that these picks can be traded or whatever. If the purpose of the pick is to offer a sort of competitive balance, then it seems silly to trade it.

I will say it would be tremendously disappointing if this pick were traded by our FO.

I'm looking for Kiehl to have the kind of jump Tajh Boyd of Clemson had from his freshmen to sophomore year. I think it's possible and really he doesn't need to have that big of a jump for us to be successful because, as you said, I think the defense is going to turn some heads. With all that talent and a d-coordinator like VanGorder...phew boy, they could be an upper tier SEC defense. (Not LSU or Bama level obviously, but who is?)

We're not there yet, but with the defensive guys they have coming in so far with the next class, they're on their way.

If Kiehl can just be a slightly above average QB and all those young guys on the OL make the same jump from FR to SO, our running game can carry us a long way. McCalebb, Mason and Blakely (with Proesch blocking) should put up big numbers in the backfield.

    • If the Orioles can't get a good return and Norby doesn't win a job next spring, the odds may go up that he takes over in left in 2025 if the Orioles aren't going to pay both Hays and Mullins, or maybe neither.
    • 4 Ks and missed 6 bats. I missed the game tonight and it looks like he pitched well and he is certainly 3rd in the pecking order right now (which speaks to the staff more than anything) but I don’t have confidence in him vs top offenses if he can’t miss bats and strike guys out.
    • I think Kremer will be in the pen for the playoffs.   I think he can be a weapon out of the bullpen for us this year. Next year I imagine he will pitch in the rotation and continue to improve.  I see this guy pitching in MLB for a long time.  He has the drive and desire to be great.  He improves and adapts as he goes along.     I think they need to try and add and impact starter in the off-seasons and push competition.  I’d like to see two impact relief arms as well.     I’m not in the “the sky is falling” camp right now, but the last few weeks have shown the importance of high quality depth.  You can’t have too much talent.
    • I bought tickets from the Birdland members presale. My wife and I have a 13-game plan. When it said you could only buy one set of tickets per series, I assumed that meant one pair for the Wild Card Series, one for the ALDS, and one for the ALCS. But I'm seeing people online say that they bought tickets for two games in the ALDS and one for the ALCS. I didn't realize that I could distribute my three games any way I wanted. Now I'm annoyed that I wasted tickets on two series that might not happen at all.
    • The Orioles have one more loss at home than on the road. So I would say about the same. The Rays on the other hand are .663 at home (53-27) vs. .553 on the road (42-34). The Orioles have Bradish and GRod going against the Nationals, at home, after a day off. They should win those games. If they win tomorrow, too, the deed would be nearly done by Wed. Winning tomorrow is not essential, they would be still in good shape with a loss. But it would help to avoid going deep into the week to resolve this.
    • Do you need five starters in a playoff series? I think you only need four. In fact, your #1 could pitch three times in a seven-game series. Bumgarten (sp?) used to do that for SF and dominate.
