Today was payback from the baseball gods for yesterday's stupid umpires.

Prior to yesterday, Jim Johnson had saved 11 of the last 13 wins for the O's dating back to May 29. The only wins that didn't involve a save in that span were a 7-5 win on May 31 (Dickserson walk-off homer) and the 5-4 extra inning walk-off vs. Boston. So that's 13 straight wins where the margin was 3 or less before yesterday's blowout - 3 by one run, 5 by two runs, five by three runs.

We have had plenty of laughers recently...just this last Monday when we were down 19-7 I was very relaxed by the 9th inning...

How about winning the game by leaving your starting pitcher in instead of calling on an inferior reliever? Oh that's right. We are so smart in the modern age that a pitcher's arm willgfall off after he throws 110 pitches.

Each time through the order the OPS against a pitcher goes up by 20 points or so. By the 4th time through an average MLB starter is allowing an OPS in the .780s. If you don't have a reliever who can do better than that you've got problems.

What could have been a laugher wound up being just a somewhat comfortable win ... and the fact that the tying run came to the plate in the bottom of the 9th inning pushed the limits of that comfort.

I just can't put my finger on it, but Jimmy just looked like a sweaty mess out there. My Dr recommended that whenever they call for JJ, I need to turn off the TV. At least he didn't hit anyone.....
