Would DD trade Wieters? Most on here don't want to trade Machado or Bundy. Is Wieters an untouchable? If DD traded him we would have to get a catcher back plus others. Who would be interested in trading for him? The Angels? Cubs? Marlins? Possible trade partners for us involving several of their players.

I think it would be crazy to trade Weiters, he's only 26. He's going to get better and is one of if not the best defensive catcher in the game. His hitting isn't great, but he can go on tears.

You are 100% correct. Great post. I have mixed feelings about him. We are not getting maximum production from him at the plate. Will we ever see it?

I think Buck would quit the day DD traded Wieters.

People get to down on Matt because he hasn't lived up to his lofty expectations, but guess what, he's still an elite catcher relatively speaking.

Acquiring elite prospects and then trading them before they fully mature is no way to build a good ball club. I don't think we should even be having this discussion before 2014.

You can say he's only 26, but that is old enough to know what you've got. He's been in the majors for 3 years. He is a good defensive catch and a horrible hitter. I would gladly trade him before his value becomes too drastically reduced.

Which catchers in the majors do you view more valuable than Wieters?

Yes, DD would trade Matt Wieters............... In a year and a half to two years from now if there is no indication he will sign long term. End of story. No need to talk about this until after next season at the earliest.

We have a number of holes to fill. If trading him allows you to obtain another decent major league catcher, starting pitcher, 1B and LF you should listen and consider it. I'm not sure we could get that much for him. If another team has a great hitting coach that sees the flaws in his stance and swing many of us see we might land a big haul.

Dude you are so off the reservation it is ridiculous! How many great catchers have there ever been in major league history yet alone currently? Wieters is u touchable, until he comes close to free agency. Then, being a Boras client, he will be traded. The expectations on the guy are just ridiculous! He is already the best catcher the organization has ever seen yet you and other morons want to trade him! Ridiculous!

      I’ve been to 9 games. All game day buys or a day before. The O’s run a pretty good promotion… buy 1 ticket get a ticket for any other game/in any other seat for 30% off.  Those type of deals matter.

      Same pitch clock and rule changes for all teams, but running on Adley is up considerably more than league average.   I do think the word is out on a couple of our pitchers.   Bautista has allowed 7 steals without anyone betting caught; Baumann has allowed 6 with none caught.   On the other end of the spectrum, runners have failed in 4 of 6 attempts against Kremer, and 4 of 5 against Baker.   Interestingly, only 8 runners tried against Bautista last year, and 2 of them failed; 3 of 4 failed against Baumann.

      We’re alright. No LH SP either that we’re facing. Seems like the first series in forever without a LH SP. Big OF though. Will Santa and O’Hearn be ok in RF?   For this series if we play O’Hearn all three I think we make up for the offense missed by Mullins.    OPS wise   Hicks and O’Hearn(RF) = Mullins and Vavra I like Vavra but we cannot afford to carry his OPS and his questionable role with Mullins out. He’s a “luxury???” we cannot afford.

      I did not disagree with Kjerstad and Cowser, and said so after their selections and some time to process it. I initially wanted other players there, but when their draft was done I saw what they did and liked it. The under slot plan there was good, because the slot provided much more room to work with. Not the same thing this year at #17. It was a smart play each time, despite the fan backlash. Elias was in a much different position then, IMO, not only draft-capital-wise, but organizationally. They are obviously well-stocked with very good depth at the higher minors. They have shown they can draft and develop young high-end position players in Gunnar Henderson and Coby Mayo, but I am not too sure how much credit they deserve for the development of Jackson Holliday yet. He seems to have been extremely polished before he got here. Their development of young pitchers is a big question mark to me. We don’t have much to go on as far as kids they have drafted, except the Carter Baumler kid, and he has struggled to be able to stay on the mound. Do we give the Elias regime credit for the development of Grayson and DL? I think so, but are we as confident they can develop pitching as well as position players? Does any organization develop a high number of high school pitchers to be MLB contributors? I am struggling to think of any. Maybe St. Louis or LA Dodgers, but does anyone really do that well anymore? Internationally is very different, and it’s obviously the Astros have made a living in that realm recently. This draft has a lot of higher end HS guys that should be available at #17. These are the guys that could be top 5 picks when they get drafted again in three years. They can take them now and have them ready for MLB sooner, and they cost less. They are riskier, absolutely. A college bat is safer, and not necessary less-talented. The Brayden Taylor kid looks interesting from what I have read, but I have not seen him at all. I have learned to trust the draft process under Elias and crew. They have proven to be excellent in their evaluations and development. I think they know themselves very well and play to their organizational strengths. It will be interesting to see who they take in this situation. My hope for a high end high school talent is mostly because I am a fan of player development. I like the successful transition of talented young players from high school star to MLB all star for Baltimore. Holliday is looking to be a great story to me. Henderson seems to be as well. There is a lot of failure along the way for players and organizations, but when they find the right ones who are equipped with the fortitude to see it through its a great story. I’m gonna name-drop for a second. Back in 2013 Spring Training with the Nationals, Bryce Harper told my son and I once that he was just lucky to be a major leaguer. He said that there was very talented players all along the way who never make it. He kept saying how lucky he was. To be honest, I thought he was being disingenuous in his comments to my son and I, at the time. I thought he was falsely modest to teach my son about how hard it is. I mean, he was a star at 16 years old. But I have learned that he really felt that way, and he was wise to see it that way. So many things can go wrong. When they actually make it big, it’s been a hard road, and they were lucky along the way as well. So many can’t miss guys actually miss.

      Yes, those are the metrics that Frobby referenced in the OP. I agree, it is hard to know how accurate they are. Could be a case of garbage in-garbage out. Regarding blocking, it's hard to believe Adley would go from #1 last year to average that quickly. If you count the whole time period of 2022-23 he is still #2.
