Are we trying to get too much pitching?

We got 3 pitchers in the Stros deal and now BB is saying we are throwing around Adam Jones and 3 pitchers from the M's.

Why so much emphasis on pitching?

This team has got to get more positional talent.

It is an absolute must.

Plus, the pitching they are targeting isn't even top pitching.

I am not saying that AM is going to make the deal for Bedard like BB is saying...I am just saying that for what we are hearing, there isn't enough positional talent coming back.

If Pie is out of a Cubs deal, they really don't have much in terms of real positional talent...And that's fine...A deal headlined by Gallagher and Veal is fine. Although, as has been said, we need to see if the Rockies are interested in BRob.

Bedard is the guy...That is the trade we need to gbet at least 2 position players back and maybe even 3.

I just hope the Dodgers are still in on Bedard.

Is that possible?

When you're trotting out Victor Zambrano, Victor Santos and Jon Leicester... I dunno if it is possible.

It possible when you are trotting out Luis Hernandez.

At least there is pitching prospects in our system. We have zero middle infield prospects in our system.

I'll reserve judgement until I see what we get in return for BRob and Bedard. There needs to be at least 2 very very good young hitters coming back between those two deals. Jones and Balentien, or Votto and Pie. Plus lesser guys like Patterson or Encarnacion or Clement if the M's insist.

A. You can never have enough pitching depth. And if Mcphail is trading for a lot, it makes you think we didn't have much to start with in the first place.

B. More pitching means more depth to trade from. Teams always need pitching.

C. The IF prospects that are thrown around on this board are possibly not to be had in trades?

Who knows. Maybe we are getting a surplus so that we hope the fraction that turn out are ready to go by 2010 or so. By then, we can be players in FA markets and trades for positional talent.

It is a better gamble to get positional talent in FA than pitching. Maybe that is what we are trying to do.

It does seem like we are targeting pitching, but I think it is justified. They Yanks and Sox have great young arms and if we dont keep up or even attempt to keep up it will set this franchise back even more. I know its said time and time again, but you just cannot ever have enough pitching. The more we get, the better the chances one or more of these guys will turn into gold.

Pitching is the best trading chip you can get. We can always trade it to acquire more pieces. And our young pitching has been asked about, so maybe they can trade DCab and Guthrie now for offense or spin some of these other guys to teams if we have more talent...

I don;t think the problem is too much pitching as much as it is too many players who need to be on the 40 man roster.

I was looking at what the marlins have done in there fire sales and they always stock pile pitching it seems like we are following there philosophy. And it makes sense I mean look at the ridiculous contracts pitchers get and when the team is ready to contend they can deal the extra pitchers for missing pieces.
