The Bullpen has a day off, they are not that overextended. We don't need to bring up another pitcher. We need Ford's bat against 2 LHP in TB. Then we will see. Britton has no business being up here now, he is clearly not ready.

I agree with this, but Jake isn't ready either. When Britton's turn comes up they should bring back S Johnson. He should be stretched out and he is the only one we haven't seen as a starter.

Good point. Bottom line, if they keep Chavez and let McClouth walk I will be very upset. McClouth might not be any better, but he's younger and worth a look. Chavez has no business here.

Fine bring up Johnson. The bottom line is Arrieta, Britton, and Matusz aren't ready for prime time. Too bad DD couldn't get us a SP at the deadline. We sure need one.

Mind you, I see Johnson as part of what might be a patchwork of starters until Hammel comes back.

No, he is no better than Hunter who is also not ready for prime time.

Bring up Johnson give him a start, DFA Gregg, bring up Berken and let him be the long man for now. Its far from optimal but Berken has been starting and could at least help the rest of the pen from being used up maybe which is more use than Gregg is right now. Unless a starter clears waivers we can get cheap, I really do not see a whole lot of other options.

I have been advocating a DFA of Gregg and Berken as the long man for a while. I also think Johnson deserves the next chance and Britton probably should go down. The next start is against KC, not a bad way for Johnson to break in...of course it might help Britton's confidence, but he probably needs to go down and work on command. His stuff is clearly good, but his command has been horrible lately.

My guess is the O's let McLouth walk unless they are able to trade him for another minor leaguer.

I think so also. I don't think they look at him as a need right now, and they are not going to call him up just so they don't lose him.

No chance the Orioles will DFA Gregg or Chavez anytime soon IMO ...They still owe them around $3 Million together and wouldnt want to pick up more salary to replace them.

But since they have to pay them anyway, isn't the salary that they pick up the important thing, and not how much money they owe Gregg and Chavez? I doubt we'll see Crawford replacing Chavez, but McLouth is cheap.

I think they havent cut Gregg earlier because of the money. I know McLouth is cheap and like Ford I believe he's earned a call up & playing time. But I just think the lost services for the money they are committed to seems to be a problem. As I said why didnt they cut Gregg long ago and recall a guy like Johnson/Berken? And really we lost Bergerson (not that its a big loss) because they were too stubborn to cut Gregg sooner. All three of the guys I named are cheap options that have been a option all along.

You may be right, although Greeg hadn't really pitched that badly for a long time (prior to yesterday), so maybe they were hoping to flip him at the deadline. It will be interesting to see what happens now.

    • Yeah, basically this, that Westburg's underlying numbers (EV, barrel %, xwOBA) seem to point at this being pretty real, or at least that there's nothing 'undeserved / lucky' about this hot streak, if it's just that.
    • The problem with a Cowser/Kjerstad/Stowers/Bradfield outfield roster is there are no right handers to handle LHP. I don't think and completely left handed outfield is the destination for an organization the values versatility.
    • Looks maybe concussion related.
    • How can you not be romantic about baseball? This seems slightly poetic. I enjoyed reading, and correlated your experience in the stands back to what I watch in Game 1 on MASN.  It was also pretty cool to hear Jim Palmer give you a shout out in Game 2 of the series on Live TV.
    • I am not worried.  It just doesn’t remotely meet the eye test.  He has been great in the field . I can think of at least 3 outstanding plays he has made and not any that I thought he should have gotten but didn’t. Meanwhile Holliday is 3 OAA and I can’t think of an outstanding play and can think of a number I thought he should have made.
    • Nicely stated Roy. Every since I was 9 years old and saw the O's vs. the Tokyo Giants in Tokyo in 1971, I've been infected with the Orange/Black virus. There is no cure and I don't want one. You and I sat at the lunch table with Jim Palmer at the 1970 World Series Champs reunion, and its still one of my enduring baseball memories. You said I looked like Carlton Fisk! I was at all 3 games in this Angels series, right behind the O's dugout. I got to see all our boys, and just simply love to watch this team play. And in true baseball fashion, the one game on paper we should have dominated (GRod vs. 8+ ERA Channing), we end up down 7-0 and lose. But watching Gunnar's homers, his electric triple, and he made a fantastic play today on a ball that went under Westburg's glove, Adley do Adley things, Cowser, holy crap. Kimbrel v. Trout with bases loaded, bottom of 9th, 2 outs, down by 2? That was fun. Next game Trout bats leadoff and torches a GRod fastball for a homer to the opposite field.  An observation.... If you didn't know anything about the team, and you only watched game 1 batting practice, you'd think Cowser and O'Hearn were the studs of the team. Mountcastle was taking BP with the reserves and he put on a show as well.  Home after 3 straight days watching this O's team, so jealous of the Balt fans in Balt that get to see the team with regularity. It's a special bunch.
