I don't care how many pitches he throws as long as he holds the Sox scoreless. 5 shutout will work fine.

That's how I look at it.

If THE OPPOSING PITCHER is throwing a lot of pitches but keeping us off the scoreboard, then we're doing a good job of making him work, and we'll eventually get to him and/or their bullpen because of it.

If OUR PITCHER is throwing a lot of pitches but keeping them off the scoreboard, then I don't care about the pitch-count ...... the bottom line is that they aren't scoring runs, and we'll worry about the later innings when we cross that bridge.
