Nick bunted on his own

I figured people wondered about it. Buck danced around it a little but said he apreciated Nick's thinking. I think it was a terrible low baseball IQ play and I am a big Nick fan.

I agree. Buck handled that question by not throwing Nick under the bus and admitted it could have gone the other way. The rub of it is it was a poor decision by Nick and he didn't execute. It was also a bit of bad luck with the ball staying on the plate but Nick taking the bat out of his own hand is head scratching to say the least.

I don't trust Buck on this one. I think it was his idea, and he's too stubborn to own it.

I would not call it low baseball IQ, instead poor execution. Third-base is playing back, if he gets it down then bases-loaded, and Hardy's hit breaks the game wide-open. Just unfortunate that it didn't go where he wanted to. And there was a chance he could just move the runners-up to second third, and again the following hit will get us two more runs.

We had 5 hits thru 1 inning plus for Buchholtz. He was up with everything and there was 2 on and nobody out. Hardy is hitting .225 and Nick is a hot hitter. He couldn't drive in a run there with that approach and even if he got the runners over Hardy hasn't had a good year. He is too good and hot of hitter to do that.

Remember all that stuff people said about Nick being a "high baseball IQ player"? Those people need to seriously reconsider that assessment.

For the time being, I have no confidence in Markakis.

Your name kinda matches the quality of your posts. Nick tried to do something he doesnt do often. If it works you call him brilliant. If it doesnt its fair to say he didnt execute .... Your point is off in so many ways.

I'm sure you've never made a questionable decision.

I'm sure Markakis is fully aware that he's been swinging a hot bat since coming back from the DL. IIRC, he singled in his first at bat. There's no need to take the bat out of his hands and put it in Hardy's.

It was just a mind boggling decision whoever made it. And it cost us this game. Probably put us into a funk too.

Ok...? Thanks for the compliment. :D

The point remains: you don't have Babe Ruth bunt with nobody out and two on. Perhaps Markakis didn't make that call, but whoever did really needs to think.
