After this season only 1 of Bobby V versus Adrian/Dustin survive IMO. The Sox could be having the largest fire sale we have seen in a while.

Personally, I wouldn't have a fire sale for Bobby V but that is me. Does it need to happen? Probably, but they still won't win even with the fire sale with Bobby V as the manager.

Dustin Pedroia would look very nice in orange and black!

The O's should be claiming any player they like as they come down the pipe. Every now and again an Alex Rios kind of thing happens when a team wants to dump salary.

The Red Sox would not be that kind of team, but it's certainly worth putting in the claim.

How do you know they're not... <a href="http://s1106.photobucket.com/albums/h367/isestrex/Emoticons/?action=view&current=wasnt-me.gif" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h367/isestrex/Emoticons/wasnt-me.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

You claim everyone, then you find out the waiving team knows something you don't know (steroid use is a good example) and you end up stuck with a trap of a contract.

Yes! We got the money, Angelo's has more than enough. You gotta pay for talent.

The Red Sox aren't going to give up A-Gon for nothing, especially not to a team in the same division. It just wasn't going to happen, even if the Orioles claimed him.

Angelos isn't cutting that check.

Very few owners are willing to accept the possibility of losing money on their teams.

Also, the Red Sox wouldn't trade him to the O's even if they had claimed him. Odds are good a deal doesn't get done with the Dodgers, and if it does, it would not just be a salary dump.

But why not try and show we want to win? I am so tired of people defending Angelo's cheapness, he has ripped off the fans for a decade and a half, sorry if I am not sad to see him overspend. AGon is a great player.

5 more years at $21,857143 per year makes sense for the O's?

What is Kevin Gregg, Mark Reynolds and Wada Making this Year? ~17MM.....Yes he makes sense for the Orioles. Gregg & Reynolds are off the books next year and Wada the year after. My guess is that Gonzales will out perform all 3 combined.

Placing a claim on a player we have literally no chance of acquiring is supposed to show that we want to win? People put waaaay too much stock in waiver claims this time of the year. We don't have to complain about every single one because the reality is that 99% of these guys aren't going anywhere.

Exactly right on both counts. I saw a segment on the MLB channel before the season started on contracts

for players over 30. They're almost always a bad investment. The Sox aren't giving him away either, it would take at least three A level prospects and I'm not sure we have that many in our already thin system. Even if you say we do, that's reason enough for me not to do the deal.
