Some stuff

Read into this as little or as much as you want. This is what my guy told me today:

The front office is very happy with the Tejada return. The feel Scott is a real sleeper and may well put up #s in excess of Miggy. The young pitchers will not be rushed.

Everything is on hold with Bedard due to conflicting reports on where Kuroda will end up. Lots of reports that he's selected LA but last last evening reports started to surface that he's choosing the M's. Appears they may have gone a 4th year and Washington has no state income tax which placed another million per year in his pocket.

IF LA loses out on Kuroda, Bedard most likely will land there. In the package will be Kemp of Kershaw, not both. The front office may be leaning towards a package of Either, Kershaw, Hu, and another pitcher.

The current Reds offer for Bedard is said to be Bailey, Hamilton, and a shortstop prospect named Loo. Most likely they'll add a 4th player if the deal gets close.

Lots of concern over the SS position. We had an offer for the Astros SS but he choose the Twins.

He told me he doesn't think Roberts will get traded.

Mora was very, very upset about the Tejada trade. He'll mostly be gone even if we have to eat some contract.

Still looking at signing a closer type.

That's all folks!

Good stuff. Although if we aren't getting Kemp, we better be getting Laroche.

Also, who is this Loo character?

In seriousness...

There isn't a shortstop prospect in Cincy that has that last name.

I want Votto though w/ Bailey and Hamilton. I've been liking that trade every day since the Kuroda mystery began.

BTW, once Kuroda does choose, do you expect something to go down extremely quickly with Bedard?

Not really thrilled with either of those rumored offers for Bedard. Gotta get Kemp and LaRoche from the Dodgers, and certainly need to get Votto back from the Reds. I'd also prefer Cueto to Bailey.

Agreed. We need two of the three of Kemp, Laroche, and Kershaw. I look elsewhere if they don't agree to that. Honestly, I don't know why they wouldn't considering how deep their entire system is.

I agree. I really like Kershaw, but I'd rather have the stud position guys. I also think Votto is a must in any deal with the Reds (unless Bruce is miraculously included).

Much rather have a deal centered around Kemp than Kershaw.

Also doesn't sound like we are getting LaRoche either, which is disappointing. I still think a Kemp, Hu, McDonald, plus 4th guy deal could be very nice.

Hate the Cincy deal. We have to get Votto back from them if they are being stingy on Bruce. I would actually prefer Cueto to Bailey as well. I still think Votto, Cueto, Hamilton is a deal I would seriously think about.

Interesting about Roberts, seems like your guy has been hinting this for a while, bb.

Peace, Belkast....any word on Roberts?

Any word on the Dodgers offer?

If Kuroda does go Dodger Blue, who is the next in line for Bedard? Cincy (they seem to think they are 1st in line)?

My impression - and I so not have an insider, just listening to the chatter - was that Bedard to the Cubs was a 100% certainty. The deal appeared to be Gallagher, Murton and at least 2 add ins. People in Chicago, though, seem to value Murton over Pie. But Hendry seems to eat, sleep and dream Roberts and MacPhail seems to want to make up for the Trax deal. Was the change about the return?

So may questions, so little time....

    • Still a lot of things to shake out this year that IMO affects this decision.   1. Is Silent J the heir apparent to RF? 2. Is Beavers taking the next step and showing as a viable starting OF? 3. Is Fabian taking the next step to be a legit 4th OF who can play all 3 positions?   I will be very surprised if Taters is on the team next year. Honestly I think that if he is it will be due to failure of the young guys to show out. Good thing for us is we have enough of them that I don’t think that will happen.
    • He said after the game that he has five pitches, and if any three of them are working on a given night, he can mix them up enough to get batters out.
    • He’s had quite the turnaround vs. LHP on this road trip.  Hopefully it continues all year!
    • Gunnar's definitely looking like the MVP of the Orioles and looks like priority #1 to me to get an extension. Burnes age works against him, because the O's maybe don't want to go longer than 5-6 years at most, but I could be wrong there. The Witt extension kind of set the parameters of what Gunnar will probably want at minimum. 2025 25 Kansas City Royals $8,111,111     2026 26 Kansas City Royals $14,111,111     2027 27 Kansas City Royals $20,111,111     2028 28 Kansas City Royals $31,111,111     2029 29 Kansas City Royals $36,111,111     2030 30 Kansas City Royals $36,111,111     2031 31 Kansas City Royals *$35,000,000   $35M Player Option 2032 32 Kansas City Royals *$35,000,000   $35M Player Option 2033 33 Kansas City Royals *$35,000,000   $35M Player Option 2034 34 Kansas City Royals *$35,000,000   $35M Player Option 2035 35 Kansas City Royals *$33,000,000   $33M Team Option 2036 36 Kansas City Royals *$28,000,000   $28M Team Option 2037 37 Kansas City Royals *$28,000,000   $28M Team
    • It is probably thin because of the short career lifespan is for those positions, which is why there is no way Mullins should be extended.
    • Gunnar Henderson's splits through first 97 ABs of the season:   Home -- .326 / .385 / .630 Away -- .294 / .362 / .667 Vs. LH -- .324 / .395 / .622 Vs. RH -- .300 / .358 / .667
    • I don't think the point was to trash Holliday but to question the reliability of the metric. I share the question about Holliday's OAA. He hasn't been bad but I can't think of a single plus play and OAA thinks he is the best defender on the team.
