I remember the fight with Craig Nettles in the 1977 A.L.C.S.

Brett said that he always respected Thurman Munson after that fight. What happened was that at one point in the fight, Brett was on the ground, and there were about 3 Yankees right above him, ready to pound the **** out of him. Munson blocked them away from the Royals 3rd-baseman, preventing his teammates from ganging up on and hitting Brett while he was defenseless on the ground.

Munson hated the rival Royals as much as any other Yankee, but he hated unfair fighting even more.
