Totally agree, that's what it seems like to me. Tough to say if Cease is their top trade target, but he certainly fits the bill. So does Framber Valdez, who I don't think we're talking about enough. Houston is close to maybe dealing Tucker to the Cubs, so they seem kind of down for whatever right now. No one thought Burnes was available from a pretty good Brewers team, so the analog for that this year is Gallen with Arizona. Also a pretty good team, also doesn't seem like he's available, also a 1-year rental. Just drawing parallels for fun. I think we all would love Elias to find a way to trade for one of these multi-year young studs (Jones, Bryce Miller, etc), but it does seem like he'd rather not do a prospect-laden blockbuster. Then there's the "take on money" category: Castillo, Montgomery. -

I'm just saying that all of the available information, incomplete though it is, seems to indicate we're involved to some degree. If Castillo's contract was out of our price range/comfort zone, we would have simply shook Burnes' hand, thanked him for his efforts as an Oriole, and wished him luck in his future endeavors. -

Sadly I don’t have a crystal ball 🔮 but suppose Elias did sign Burnes to seven years, his last year would be 2032 . Yes he probably would be downside but remember , the salaries are on skyward trajectory from what it is now -
In that case let Bos sign him. I'd honestly be surprised if he had a ton of suitors for such a contract. We shall see. -

It was mostly just a general statement about the way a lot of people are acting right now. If you are not one of them, then I apologize for sort of projecting that onto you. -
I doubt he has to sign one. Somebody will guarantee him real money. He has no reason to sign a MiL deal. I’m sure he is looking at a 2 yr deal knowing yr 1 is for rehab. -
I think Burnes has to sign somewhere before everything else happens. My opinion is that Burnes is the Orioles number one choice and they have a big offer out for him. If he chooses to go elsewhere, I think trading for Cease in a Burnes-like deal become priority number two.
