But you are forgetting the opt outs. Witt guaranteed the Royals 3 years after he becomes a FA. So, in that same scenario, Gunnar gets around 150M(give or take) for 7 years. It is possible that he makes more than 100ishM for those first 3 years of free agency but it’s not definite. This gives him total security while essentially giving him on the top end of what most players are making in free agency right now. It is possible that long term he is losing some money there but I doubt he turns down that much security over a little bit of money, relatively speaking. It’s a bad deal for the team and completely great for the player. -

I don’t hate the idea. I like the idea of Eovaldi better, but pitching depth is a good thing. -

That sounds like a solid update to the current rule to me. -
The ghost runner rule was made to save bullpens. This rule is just ridiculous cheating. -
