Clemens denies all steroid usage

"I want to state clearly and without qualification: I did not take steroids, human growth hormone or any other banned substances at any time in my baseball career or, in fact, my entire life," Clemens said Tuesday in a statement issued through his agent, Randy Hendricks. "Those substances represent a dangerous and destructive shortcut that no athlete should ever take.

So what does everyone think about Brian Roberts now? I didn't read the Mitchell report but based on comments made by other people, Clemens had the most damning evidence against him, and the MOST evidence against him, yet he flat out denies he ever did squat.

Does this make anyone respect Brian Roberts more? He has less to admit to (if you believe his side of the story, anyway), but he still came clean.

Roger Clemens is one of the most arrogant people in MLB - as I think his half-season escapades and contract demands show. The fact that it took this long to come out with a denial is also pretty rediculous. If you didn't do it, why not make this statement the day the report came out yourself, as oppose to having your lawyers make it for you. By waiting, it seems like he was weighing his options and opted to deny. What a jackass. Either way, I truly believe that Greg Maddux has been the best pitcher of our generation, whether Clemens used steroids or not.

I'd like to see him make these statements under oath in front of congress. Heck... I'd like to see him take the Travis Henry route and volunteer to take a lie-detector test.

I, personally, agree with the sentiment that the abnormal statistical progression of his career is very suspect. I think he's probably not telling the truth right now... but what legal gains would he see by denying all allegations?

All this very strongly worded denial tells me is that Clemens is positive he'll never actually be caught for anything he did in the past. I have a hard time believing he'd have the most evidence in the Report and be completely innocent. Roberts coming clean kinda screwed him in that regard. Plus, I don't think there was any incentive for his trainer to lie about Clemens using.
